2 10/100 for ICN and 2 10/100/1g for file sharing

Is it possible to connect two computers together, for internet connection sharing, using two10/100 nic cards aand a 10/100 router
and then use 2, 1 gig nic cards to connect each computer to each other just to share files.

My idea or hope is to use the 1 gig cards to share files and keep the file sharing from being hacked or viewed

my idea or hope is to also use the 10/100 router and nic cards to ONLY share and internet connection with firewall protection

currently I cant figure out how to set it up this way. I am sharing the internet connection but cant see my two computers.

I am only doing this because my pc-cillin logs show that I have had many attacks and I also noticed that my zipped file for spybot search and destroy was deleted....and I sure as hell didnt do it. I now have pc-cillin firewall up and I have the windows xp home sp1 internet connection firewal up on the 10/100 nic cards but not on the gig cards

Now i honestly believe there is too much that needs to be seen, when it comes to networking, so I'm not expecting to get the super fix it all answer in a forum....but I'm really just trying to save myself $99/hour. last time i spent that money it turned out i only needed a crossover cable.... btw my gig cards are connected using a cat 6 crossover cable.

How is your software firewall seeing many attacks when you have a broadband router?

As far as using the two gigabit cards for file sharing, it should be pretty close to automatic. I'd start by disconnecting the other network and make sure you have the communications working on the gigabit cards, then introduce the other network into the mix. In Network Properties, Advanced Settings, move the gigabit card to the top of the heap.

ya, what do you mean by 'attacks'

do the above by gunrunner (take out the internet connect, and try to get the gigabit workign first). then report back

pc-cillin logs report numberous attacks, cloaking, backdoor trojan blocking, and some have been blocked by the firewalls, i started looking into ways to better secure my connection because 3 - 4 days ago my computer wouldn't even do simple tasks like open programs, it would just freeze up and take 4 or 5 minutes to open a video game. I have found a few virus's like some java_nocheat.a, java_bytverify.a, js_exception.gen. and Pc-cillin has quarantined them and I deleted them, and it hasn't found them again....so I assume those are gone. I installed "hacker eliminator" program last night to see if i catches anything. but during the times that pc-cillin has reported hacker activity coincides with the times my computer has been freezing up, i assume its a Denial of service or something.
I'll try the gig first and then add the internet nic back into play

Okay heres what I've ended up. Tell me if this is as secure as i can get it with my current equipment.
cable router - password protected
1 gig cards networking my computers together
pc-cillin firewall allowing communications between those two 1 gig nic cards
10/100 nic cards hooked up to the router giving my computer an internet connection w/ windows xp internet firewall
pc-cillin firewall not letting the 10/100 nic cards communicate
thats all i can think of.
is this good enough? or can you think of any loop holes
also what is a good trojan finding program you know of??

I think you have plenty of protection, at least IMO. I'm perfectly happy with a broadband router with all ports stealthed, current AV and spyware detection running, and that's it.

Thank you guys for your help. Seems to work fine. files x-fer fine and internet connection is fast. No lock ups yet. usually happens bad around 8 - 11 pmish. we'll see

this setup is almost identical to the one I'm working on at my house (except there is 6 PC's on the 100, and just my main 2 on the 1000)

I'd like to know how it turns out.

Edit: i plan to disable (unbind) file and prnt sharing on the 100mb cards to force the filesharing onto the gigabit.

if you get it working please post, we could probly help each other.

disconnect or disable the 10/100 cards and (using win xp) set up the network as a network without internet connection selecting the gig ethernet cards. Then hook up or enable the 10/100 cards and it started working for me. I disabled file sharing on the 10/100 cards and enabled them on the gig ethernet cards. software firewall accepting info from the gig cards and not letting any info from the 10/100 pass. works fine and seems to have solved all outside problems from before in my pc-cillin logs. also enable the win xp firewall on the 10/100's. works great

If you are using a cable router, I'm sure you can still do file sharing through the 10/100 with the other 4 computers, and enable filesharing on the other 2. I have tested the connection with a few games and it doesnt even recognize the ip on the 10/100, i can on file share and connect games to the other computer using the gig lan now.
