2.0 speaker setup for pc

I'm looking at purchasing a 2.0 speaker setup for my other computer.

Is it better to go with a computer speaker type setup like Logitech or Klipsch or get an external reciever (home theater type) and hook up a couple decent bookshelp speakers to it?

I have an Extra Sony Reciever that I'll use for this setup. I'm looking at these Polk speakers HERE

If it were me I would just go with a 2 channel "made for pc" setup from logitech or the like. Simply because its more affordable and less of a hassle. Just my .02

Especially if you don't have to get a receiver, go with some bookshelf speakers. Go out and demo some before you buy. Sound is a personal thing and there are plenty of options in the range to check out.

A sub would be a good addition to a bookshelf speakers set. Are you pretty set on having 2.0 and not 2.1?

There are a lot of nice deals on refurb stuff too.
Just as an example of the kind of stuff that's out there, a pair of JBL E80s would be less than the bookshelf speakers you have picked out (not that I'm saying to avoid those)

Yea' just 2.0, but I can always upgrade later if I want to.
I have the RTI 6 bookshelf speakers for this system and they rock. These put out more bass than most computer type subs **LOL** I figured the RTI4's would be good for my other sys. Don't need them for much...... very little gaming and mostly listening to Mp3's & watching dvd's.

real speakers please. you can go shop for a 2 channel amp/preamp in garage sale for cheap and maybe even pick up the speakers that way. of course they would be bigger than those stupid computer "speakers". There is no defeating physics.

I would go with JBL E20 (great sound for the size and price) and the cheapest 100watt receiver you can find. The speakers go for as little as 99 bucks and im sure you can find a cheap receiver for 100 or less even.

Well, seems like you're pretty familiar with the Polk RTi series. If you haven't demo-ed some of the competition, I'd still recommend that, but if the RTi series sounds good to you then go for it

If eventually you're looking for a budget sub, the Dayton subs from partsexpress will help compliment bookshelf speakers by filling out the low end. Just $99 or $120 shipped right now for the 10"/12".

Sorry about the blank post above.

I have an E-MU 0404 sound card connected to a receiver and a serious pair of floor standing audiophile speakers. No computer speakers are even worthy of comparison to this setup.

If you want good sound you need a good sound card a decent receiver and good speakers.

I am also tired of my Altec Lansing 4.1 analog setup and want to connect a decent set to my Audigy 2 ZS. I have identified a AV receiver/amplifier which also has digital and optical input, decent bookshelfs and a sub that sound well together. My question is: I do want the computer clicks/dings/beeps sounds and can leave the Altec Lansings on for that. Can I connect the AV receiver through the digital/optical output of the A2ZS and then when I want to listen to some music, switch from analog to SPDIF and back again? Physically switching connections would be quite a hassle otherwise.

Any reason you don't want to have the windows sounds come through the AV set?
Hmmm... not really, it is just that it is my home/office setup and I do have some meetings there. It sort of may look odd having a full fledged audio system in there. My see through blue LED lit case anyway raises a few eyebrows. I intend to discreetly cover them mostly and only when I have the time, take the 'wraps' off.

As for the person who asked about the reciever I'll be using....... It's last years or the year before mdl. Sony STR-DE685 100x5watt ($300.00)

I stepped up my living room stereo to an Onkyo 703 w/Polk RTI 12's and Polk FXi3 surrounds. No need for a sub unless I go 15", as there's no need for another end table **LOL** I have the Sony just sitting here (waiting on speakers)
