Consumer warning: This drive comes with DRM built into it's software, a really stupid move for storage primarily intended for media files. I've seen links that say there are workarounds for the DRM, but personally I'm going to stay away from WD until they get their heads out of their b*tts and start supporting their customers interests rather than the interests of Sony, etc.

Um not sure if this drive is the same one. One the link, it has the "World Edition" as crippled. This the Essentials one. I guess they use the same software?

Does anyone actually use the software that comes on the drive? I just hooked mine up yesterday and I didn't see any reference to their "WD Anywhere Access" software so I think it is only on the World edition.
Also, the coupon above was for use when the drive was $260 last week.

I just bought two of these and the coupon worked fine. Shipping was about ten bucks, the total came out to $370.47 for two drives. The WDH1U10000N is the single drive model, so essentially you're getting a single 1TB hard drive plus a nice USB 2.0 enclosure for $180. This is the price I've been waiting for, thanks a million OP!

Also as far as the drive goes, there are no IDE 1TB drives that I know of, so it must be SATA. There are also no 5400rpm-only drives that I know of. Since reviewers are saying it's a pretty quiet drive, I'm assuming it's the "green" WD drive that goes between 5400rpm and 7200rpm. It is also the only WD 1TB drive I found on Newegg. It has a 5-star rating from 48 reviewers and goes for $259.99:

There is a minimum order threshold before the $60 off coupon applies. It's somewhere between $255 and $256. If your total is less, the coupon won't apply, more and it will. The cheapest I've made it work is $255.96:

Also, I don't know what hard drive is actually in there. The only 1tb drive I've ever seen from wd is the green power wd10eacs or whatever the model is. I'd bet that's what we're looking at here.

Actually, several reports indicate that the WD Green series drives are in fact 5400 rpm drives.

If they actually show up, I'll post back with the drive model #s and speeds. 5400rpm should be pretty quick on the 1TB drives anyway, especially if they have a 16mb cache.

I've made two purchases of two units each, for a total of 4 units, the coupon worked fine for me.

as for the Green Power harddrives, you assume it's the green power by retroductive reasoning... who knows, they might give you a GP2 in there. has anyone opened up theirs and looked what's in there? or anybody got a diagram for disassembling it?

ps. green power series is a variable speed drive, it goes anywhere from 5400rpm to 7200rpm.

This is incorrect but it's what I first thought when I saw the specs. Follow the link I provided above. The Green Power drives are excellent drives from a power, noise, and heat perspective. They are only average for performance. The 750GB and 1TB versions that are now out appear to operate at a fixed 5,400 rpm.

To help clarify spindle speed:
From my understanding, WD advertises a spindle speed between 5400 and 7200. Most people take this as on-the-fly speed adjustment.
However, the speed range merely specifies a range of possible spindle speeds. The drives spin up and run at one speed only. The other speed values are for other possible drive configurations in the future when WD decides that a faster spindle speed will reduce power consumption, possibly in an environment with less streaming and heavy I/O. Until then, all drives so far have been fixed to 5400 RPM.

Wow that is very misleading, I was also under the assumption that it had a variable spindle speed. That blows! That means they can sell all the 5400rpm drives they want without any repercussions. Shame on WD! :|
