Just ordered one of these babies yesterday, it seemed like a great deal and people can say all they want about Seagate but that's all I've owned for HDDs the past I'd say 7 years and haven't had 1 fail yet and I've built many people many computers in the past few years and keep in touch with all the people I've built computers for, considering they're all friends.

Deal only lasts till tmrw with the promo code!!

Seagate makes decent stuff, they just got a bad rap due to the 7200.11 drives, which were flawed and had a ton of issues. But their more recent drives are fine.

Their new 1TB/platter drives look really nice. In theory means greater reliability since you have to use less platters/heads for a given capacity, and the higher areal density means better performance. The new 1TB/platter Seagate drives have up to 200MB/s sequential transfer rates, for example, which is pretty respectable for an HDD.

That's a fairly good price, and a sign that prices are slowly coming down.

The interesting thing is, prices SHOULD be coming down, REGARDLESS of the flooding, BECAUSE of the lower warranty coverage. All these new Seagate drives are only one-year, and are practically disposable.

Just because it makes logical sense to US that something should be a certain way it rarely is the case when money is involved.

I'm glad that my 1tb 7200.12 still had a descent warranty because that joker failed on me the other day. Can't complain because seagate has advance rma'd a replacement drive for the low price of $9.95 including a return label. I would've paid that in shipping alone if I'd have done it. I'm still replacing all my spinners with wd because they've consistantly been the most reliable for me over the years. Hitachi hasn't been bad either but wd has been the best for me.

I had the worst luck with Western Digital, I should use that term relatively because I've only had 2 of their drives fail and have owned several of them as well. I've been pretty lucky with all my computer parts not being damaged or DOA but HDDs especially which is rare. Memory I've had the worst luck with over everything but that comes with the territory.

I've had a WD drive fail as well.

I had a pair of Seagate 2tb drives but they made my PSU whine every time they spun up so I got rid of them.

My favourite drive is my Hitachi 1tb.

Not bad, I just spent the same amount on a WD1001FALS (WD 1TB) before they jacked it back up again. Prices are slowly but surely coming back down.

IMO, 55 reviews @ 4/5 eggs isn't enough to determine reliability. Something about 3,000+ reviews with the WD1001FALS, and still remaining a 4/5 egg product, makes me feel much more confident.

Picked up one of these Seagates and showed up today in the mail (along with my Crucial M4), but probably wont have time to install either for a few days.
