*shrug* there is nothing the ps4 doesn't do that I need it to do at this point in time.
It does the main stuff (play games), but so very little else. Still can't play MP3s on it. Still can't play CDs (!!!!), no other video files, still doesn't have the quick resume they mentioned months before it was even released.

Mainly this is just ridiculous and pathetic, but not enough for me to recommend against it, and I still think it's the best buy at the moment. I do like mine, don't get me wrong, and eventually Sony might actually give it these features other consoles has many years ago.

It is a game console. You telling me you still use CDs? You don't have anything that can play mp3 files? You need it to play videos back and have nothing else that can do that? Even my phone can do it through my TV.

I would argue the same things for the xb1. It is a game console.

I agree with the general premise, but only for myself. At the end of the day, at least in the case of the Xbox One, there was a big push to market it as something of a home entertainment box. So, naturally, some folks bought the One as that all-in-one system controller. The same wasn't quite as true for the PS4, but they have talked up media functionality additions to come close to the Xbox One's feature set. Whether or not spending $400 on a gaming console for those features is wise, there is still merit behind wondering why such basic things as reading and playing a CD on the Blu-Ray drive isn't feasible.

I thought it really wrong at first to advertise it for media over gaming. We have a million media devices already.

After the update on tuesday you will be able to, and a bunch of other good stuff

USB Music Player: PS4 owners can play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the PS4, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.

I think it was kind of a home run swing that missed. It was a bad idea to market it like that, while ignoring the core of the console, and throwing the DRM lock-down and inferior hardware into the mix was icing on the failure cake.

However, the concept wasn't bad at all. If they had led with gaming, then thrown in the media stuff later and not had the DRM stuff, it could have been a great sell. The idea was clearly that gamers already loved the 360 and would want to upgrade, so they threw the One out there as an all-inclusive media device to get the average consumer (the casual gamer who won't drop $400+ on a console) to replace his home entertainment system with the Xbox One. Honestly, if done properly (better E3, competitive hardware, no online check-in stuff, no forced Kinect), it could have succeeded in getting gamers' attention, while having the homes of non- or pseudo-gamers adopting the console really well.

Does that drive work in the ps4? I have seen reports before that certain drives don't work.

One member here had a Samsung drive but I'm not sure which one it was. He reported it would not install the OS for ps4 but it worked fine in a pc. I wish there was a list of all the ones that aren't compatible. I chose the travelstar because it was used in the ign review.

The other 2tb drive from that article above should work.
