I am following the AT guide and started buying these and while reading the mobo guide, I have a question.. may be a silly one but it is big to me.

Motherboard: MSI P965 Neo
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
Memory: GeIL PC-5300 2x1024MB Value - OUT OF ORDER in zipzoomfly (NEED TO BUY, any alternative suggestions??)

In the mobo guide, under CPU & Cooler Installation, it was suggested to:

"Do not forget to apply some silicon heat transfer compound on CPU before installing the heat sink/cooler fans for better heat dispersion"

My question is: Any link to buy "Silicon Compound", "is it required" , "how to apply with photo will be great" and also the processor came with a fan. Do I need to buy heat sinks also?

If you buy retail boxed, the processor comes with a big metal thing attached to that fan, it's the heat sink :)

It should either have come with thermal pad or thermal paste pre-applied to the bottom of it, or a little plastic packet of thermal paste.

Yes there is a big metal thing attached to the fan and on top of it is a copper colored metal with some adhesive sort applied evenly. Thx

Once you set the heat sink down you don't want to lift it again or you can mess up the bond and then get higher than normal temps (and you can get higher then normal temps at first anyway but just for awhile). I took the Intel junk off and used Arctic Silver 5. They have newer directions for applying that. They show a thin line going across middle of 2 cores instead of a small bit used in the center. Here is their directions if you need to use something else:

Silicone, not silicon. Though I'm not sure if contemporary high-performance compounds still use silicone as a binder (main ingredient that holds everything together.)
