Amazon Video on Demand has a hot deal on one of the best series of all time. You can download the entire first season of BSG in HD for $5..awesome price on a frakkin amazing show! :D

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HR17ZG/

Unfortunately it looks like the BSG "miniseries" is not included, which contains the first 3 hours of the story. That is really essential viewing in my opinion. It really starts to flesh out the plot and main characters. I recommend "finding" it before you watch this package.

Just as an FYI: the first season of this show is a complete mess in HD. I love BSG, I have the HD-DVDs, the DVDs, and, soon, the BR-Ds, but don't go into it expecting "OMG MY EYES ARE HAVING ORGASMS FROM THE PRETTY COLORS ON THE SCREEN!"

Complete mess? It looks great to me. The dark/gritty realism is what the show is about..not eye popping colors (although the battles have plenty of those);). I'm rewatching it as we speak and think it looks very sharp..much better than the DVD version.

Aspect ratio seems to be a little off for me. Anyone know how to fix this in that goofy Amazon player?

Make sure you guys rent the miniseries before watching this. A ton of stuff is covered in the 3 hour "prequel" missing from this set. I can't emphasize how much more you'll appreciate season 1 if you see how it all began.

I'm a huge sci-fi fan but never really got into this because I don't have time to watch enough TV to keep up with a show that you have to watch every episode to know what's going on. Same with 24 and Heroes, I just wait for them on DVD and Netflix them. Before I get started on this, is this series kickass the whole way through (talking about all seasons, not just this one)? I kind of watched a little bit here and there and there were a couple of episodes when they were on some planet and that weird guy was President (and a douchebag). I thought those episodes were stupid and didn't watch anymore. Before I get sucked in by buying these and getting the rest on Netflix I just want to make sure I'm not going to be disappointed by the end (a la Sliders, which started out real interesting but got real stupid a few seasons in). Thanks.

Personally, I think BSG was pretty rockin all the way through. Though, as mentioned, start with the 3 hour pilot/mini-series or you're missing out big time.

I'm currently re-watching Sliders on Hulu and am on the 3rd season... and it's going down-hill fast. I hear the 4th and 5th are really bad. BSG is far superior in every way because it's as much a serious drama as it is a sci-fi series. There's really been nothing quite like it. There aren't a lot of really "feel good" moments in it though. It's a dark, moody, gut-check kind of show. It's relentless.

I even found the ending to be pretty satisfying after the journey, though that is a contentious issue with some.

ending ruined much of the series for me. It didn't tie things up, and was fucking horrible. God should not solve problems in sci-fi. EVER.

Ouch, this made me check out some spoilers on the last episode. Sounds like a pretty damn retarded way to end the series, think I'll pass. Thanks for the heads-up.

Personally, I thought it was perfect, and a decidedly nice departure from most sci-fi stories. Science and technology doesn't solve everything - how's that for a theme in a sci-fi show? G-d forbid you get some religion mixed into your perfect future!

Anyways, maybe all that grain is supposed to be in season one, but it really doesn't change the fact that most people hated it.

You screwed yourself out of a very enjoyable series, even if you wouldn't like the conclusion.

Wow. What a crappy way to watch anything (ending first.) Talk about judging something completely out of context! I could write a review of that ending 10 different ways, and you'd probably like half of them.

And, btw, in the version I saw, God didn't "solve" anything. In fact, the entire show did a great job of illustrating the many faces of a potential "God." Including the notion that "he" might well be a delusion. It really was part of the genius of the show.

The truth is that people loved the show, so much so that *no* ending would have been satisfying to some. But what BSG did was a rarity today, it went out on its own terms and told the story it wanted to tell without interference or compromise.

Can't wait for Caprica.

As for this deal, $5 is a no-brainer if you like sci-fi.

Yes BSG is an amazing series that everyone should experience. I thought the ending was brilliant.. And I liked at the very end of the episode when they showed what happened "150,000 years later.."

"All this has happened before, and all will happen again." The finale made it so true.;) The ending made me think about the age of the earth and how other civilizations could have come and gone long before our current one..and that the events in the series might have actually happened. My mind was blown for a few minutes.

Flat out best Sci-fi series in recent years. Great acting, story line, and special effects. I think it even one an Emmy for "best drama," a first for any Sci-Fi show.

Agreed. It was a struggle to not yell at the TV after each of them about why it was going to make me wait a week to see what happened next. I'm completely amazed at how well it captured my very short attention span.

Seriously. You're missing out. I actually liked the ending. It made me think and try to figure things out on my own. ;)

The series was very well done. The second half of the last episode was anticlimatic, but to avoid the rest of the series because of that is assinine. It really is worth watching, and you won't regret it if you do. I didn't enjoy the end of the show, but that is more because they wrapped everything up so that they couldn't continue it later (and I really liked it).

Like anything else, it depends on who you ask. I thought it was a great series throughout (with better moments). YMMV.

Perhaps you'd be better served by sticking to "pew pew" sci fi then... I think a lot of people were caught off guard because BSG was a gritty drama first and sci fi second.

Precisely.

For $5 it's worth forming your own opinion first hand.
