Dang, the Leno screen shot looks like it came from a DVD. So sharp!

HDTV is much better than DVD.

here are some more HD shots that i've collected from around the net (and from our tv)

totally, hdtv resolution blows away dvd. from what i remember a dvd could only hold maybe 15-30 minutes of hdtv. next thing i'm getting for my pc. prime time/pbs etc shows look sweet. pc hdtv is the cheapest way right now. good 19"+ crt monitors go for nothing. ~300 for the hdtv card and your set:)

we need some hdtv education links for peeps now!!

<--so lazy...so very lazy ;)

huh, its dropped to ~200 now? sweet! most of us probably watch more tv then we play games anyhow:) image quality matters! u all worry about aniscopy and aa filtering in games eh? ;) i have 2 old analog tv cards from over 4 years ago that still work, good investment. these can survive through several upgrades:) thats why i don't like those all in wonder cards, bundling tv/video card together generally makes upgrades more expensive, or u toss out your tv capability each time u upgrade your vid card for games.

cap some theron for us!!

Right now HD is 1920x1080 interlaced right? Is it possible for a 1920x1080 progressive scan? (thats what HD-DVD is supposed to be right?)

Anyone get the 120 version yet? I am looking to get one of these cards too and am weighing the benefits of one versus the other. Thanks!

Stuman, check the MDP-120 thread in the Home Theater Computers forum at AVSForum (link in my sig).

Lots of info there.

Wow that's a long thread! I'll have to scan through it later. I already have a Hughes E-86 hooked up to my bigscreen, but I am looking into these HDTV PCI cards for their PVR capability (my Philips DSR6000 only does DirecTV of course and no OTA). I mean, with the fall coming up, I would love to be able to record CSI and all the other shows in HD!

Is the software reliable and easy to use?

I haven't tried to record yet. I wish I had an MDP-120 to compare to but the tuner software that comes with mine seems to lock up from time to time when changing channels. Going to move it to another PC some time soon and see if that helps.

I guess this is OTA?

I run the monitor off an ATI Radeon 8500DV. I have been trying to get the pass-thru to send stuff to the TV (like DVD playing off PC) but I guess I don't have the timings in Powerstrip just right

Thought I did.

I have an ATI AIW 7500 that I was planning to use this HD card with, so it seems like it would be a similar setup.

Really, if I get this HD card, I would not necessarily need an AIW card since I wouldn't be using the analog tuner on it. I would just take the antenna feed into the HD card and then go out to the television. And then just leave the 7500 connected to my monitor.

So you have the HD card going to a seperate monitor/TV? As seen in configuration #2 here.

I'd be interested to see if any degradation when using config #1. 1 monitor setup, using pass-thru for main gfx card thru the HD card, to the monitor.

B-day is coming up....would be tight to watch HDTV on the monitor.....too bad the Mariners games are subscription only for HDTV broadcast :(

Yes, that configuration is what I was envisioning. I'd still want to use my 19" monitor for normal PC use and would watch HDTV on my 57" RPTV instead of the PC (since it would be right next to it). I don't think I'd be using my RPTV to replace the monitor as shown in config #3.
