:music: Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damned life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
'Well isn't this nice...' :music:

Even with as much as I fly, it's still a very unnatural feeling and I can feel my tension soar as the plane takes off and lands. I'll grasp the handles during turbulence and rarely sleep because of anxiety.

But, even with that anxiety and uncomfort I still do it. I've known well over a hundred people that have died in car crashes. I don't know a single person who's died from a plane crash.

The fear I have of them isn't worth sacraficing an extra 40 hours of driving time that I would be facing for many of my flights. That...and it would make my job a little bit tougher 🙂

You'll relax a little bit, but that feeling of not being in control never really goes away.

yeah, i doubt that even under the best circumstances i'll become one of those "i love flying, flying's great!" kind of people.

I'm calling my Doctor to see if I can "score some luuuudes man"

It depends on why you are afraid.

For instance, If you HATE when your ears pop, and you are afraid that your ears may pop, then your fear is VERY rational.

If you are going to be flying on an airliner and you are afraid that the plane will fail and come crashing down to the ground then your fears are unfounded and very irrational.

Sure there have been some plane crashes in history, but Driving is MUCH higher risk then flying.

Worse comes to worse, rest assured that at a minimum every flight will at least take you to the poing of impact.

I'm leaving for the airport. Hopefully i'll be posting from Atlanta next. If not, ciao, it's been fun.

it'll be alright, just remember to breathe and relax. take something that is really engrossing to you, like a book of crossword puzzles or some porno.

Passenger Near Bathroom: What is that f4pping sound I keep hearing? Oh well.

Good luck!

I actually love flying. The power is incredible when the plane is taking off. If it weren't so darn expensive, I would fly all the time.

think of it this way, your pilot is most likely gonna be a gray haired guy who has been flying consistently for the past 20 years. if he can do that and still be alive then you should be in pretty good shape.

Yes, to some extent it is irrational. Does that make it wrong? of course not. Everybody's scared of something. I applaud you for facing that fear though, and the long flight may actually be a good idea: it's long enough that you'll either get used to it, or wear yourself out from being scared/anxious, and fall asleep until it's time to land 🙂

Personally, I love flying. it's just the take-offs and landings that annoy me. You know that "stomach-in-your-throat" feeling you get on a rollercoaster? It has something to do with your sense of balance and the quick change in direction. My sense of balance is really sensitive, because I'm partially deaf; I can get that same feeling simply by going down a steep hill at a decent speed in a car. Airplanes are even worse.

That was quite the experience.

The takeoff was actually fun! I'll admit, my knees were shaking in anticipation but as soon as he started to get up to speed it was pretty cool.

I can live without the rest. My ears are still hurting and the landing descent was harrowing. The ride for the most part was relatively smooth, a few bumps here and there but overall it was smooth.

The flying itself wasn't that bad, but being at the mercy of the pilot, the elements and who knows what else is something I don't think I'll ever enjoy. I think I'm a feet on the ground type of guy.

Thanks for all of your encouragement. 1 more ride on a plane and I think I'm done.

Get shot w/ animal tranquilizer before getting on plane. Have somebody else cart you in. You're more likely to get killed driving a car than riding in a plane, but you already know that.

that stat about flying being safer than driving on a highway is misleading. It only comes out like that because so many more people are on the rode and drive numerous times compared to flight as a form of travel....

just a little somthing to think about while you're boarding 😛

--edit--
woops I skimmed and didn't see you've already done it. Oh well, somthing to think about next time 😉

You had a better experience than some people I know then 😀

I knew a kid in highschool that had never flown before; he finally had to in order to get to some family function. So he gets on the plane, and ends up with a window seat...on the wing...and the engine on that side crapped out while they were in the air. :Q

Everything else was fine though. They made it to the destination and landed just fine. He was just a bit leary of flying again though. I wonder why?

Statistics show flying is safer than driving, however many people are still afraid because
of the lack of "control" of what they are doing.

I guess I'm stuck with flying....I live in Hawaii....driving is not an option between
islands or to the mainland.
