1st build - Win7 boots slow on SSD after switching mobo

Can you guys please help me? I don't even know where to start...

I switched my motherboard -- from MSI z77a-g45 to GA Z68XP UD3 -- for better hackintosh compatibility that I'll be trying out in about a month or two...

Since I've switched motherboards though, Windows 7 takes so much longer to boot up, even on SSD.

What do I need to change to get it back to my ~20 second boot time with the old mobo??

thanks!

It now feels like I'm booting Windows up on a regular HDD, not SSD...

and after logging in, it just shows a black screen for about 20-30 seconds, with CoreTemps program and a functioning mouse cursor before the rest of the desktop (wallpaper/taskbar/icons, etc...) would show up.

After all of that, it's good and fast again like how an SSD should be.

I'm interested in this post too because I may be doing a similar thing... I may be swapping out my MOBO and CPU for an i7-3770k/z77 MOBO... should I do a fresh install too on my SSD or I can just simply swap out and everything should be working fine as long as I set the BIOS to ACHI?

or would I be losing anything by just keeping my ASRock Z68 board and plugging in the i7-3770k?

Have you installed the new Software for the new MOBO after the swap? Since it may use different controllers/drivers?

I have...

after switching the mobo, I reinstalled Windows 7 -- 2nd major install on this SSD -- and then installed the drivers from the new mobo's DVD, and video card's DVD.

It's pretty fast... I just wish the boot up was the same.

This thing is driving me crazy.

I get the same results on my Intel 520, however the boot is pretty fast, straight to a desktop.. You may want to tweak the bios settings for a faster boot.

Any tips Seven?
I'm not really sure what else to change in the BIOS to make it fast...
I've already enabled AHCI, as well as the quick boot thing... Don't know what else to change.

thanks

Having same problems the second I changed to SSDs, even bought a new SSD, new MOBO, new RAM (for other reasons of course, not for this), didn't help. My other computer's HDD boots faster than any of my SSDs. Tried pretty much everything.

It is more like a hit or miss with SSDs, a huge number of people have similar problems and these problems usually don't get solved either.

In the next two weeks I'll be giving my current ASRock mobo and i5-2550k CPU (Rig in my sig) to my brother and replacing it with a z77 and i7-3770k... so I'll be doing the same thing you just did but backwards going from a z68 to z77 board - I'll let you know if I encounter similar issues and find out how to fix it...:hmm:

In the mean time... I'm going to troll other forums to see if I can find a solution for you...

Thanks Destiny...

I may have solved it... somehow lol.

I just decided to reinstall Windows again from scratch. Before I did though, I found a BIOS update for my board. So I updated my board from F8 to F10.

Also, during installation, I "pre-installed" the Intel AHCI driver I got from their website.

After reinstalling Windows, I redid the drivers one by one, and restarted the computer every single time to see which one would break it. Fortunately, none of them did, but I did notice the boot lasting a tiny bit longer as I add more drivers.

Anyway, I'm not exactly sure which single thing fixed it, since I basically redid the whole computer. The boot is fast now, but still nothing compared to my ~20 second boot time (from push of power button) with my first set up.

I'll have to time it when I get home from work...

thanks everyone!
