Hi all, I'm building a new gaming PC for around $1,000. It will be used to play Starcraft 2 as well as other new PC games. I'm aiming for 1920x1200 resolution. I'm looking at getting a i5-750 and overclocking it to 4ghz. GTX 460 because it seems like the best deal on the market right now. 4GB ram.

Would appreciate any suggestions on both computer build as well as the monitor.

I'm still researching builds quite like yours but I can offer this bit of info:

- the hyper 212+ is on amazon and other sites for $230 shipped (and I believe it comes with its own cpu paste, so you can omit the arctic silver).

- newegg has a combo deal for the 650TX psu and the samsung spinpoint F# (rated well) for $144 and also a $20 rebate. combo#466028

- for less expensive ram, others on this forum have recommended this set of gskill 4gb for $82 (F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT)

I'm wondering about the difference for oc'ing my i5-760 with ddr3 1600 compared to 2000. Will that affect my ability to stable oc my i5-760 to 4ghz?

Also any suggestions for alternative cheaper mobo's? I want x2 pci-e 2.0 that will both run at x8 in sli so I can get a second gtx 460 sometime down the line.
 
Sorry, can't help with the motherboard for SLI. I don't have any expertise there. The GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard seems to be pretty popular but I don't see that SLI is a feature....

Read up on memory dividers. There's really no reason to get such expensive memory. Go with the kit suggested or else this Ripjaws if you must have fancy heatspreaders.

I wouldn't recommend a Biostar and I wouldn't recommend SLI as an upgrade path either. By the time "down the line" comes, you'll be able to get another single card that is faster, cooler, and more energy-efficient than a GTX 460. That being said, here's an MSI that is cheaper and better than that Biostar while retaining the possibility to go x8/x8.
 
+1 on the Storm Scout case. I have been using that case for over a year and love it. Beats the HAF and all Antec cases IMO.
 
Go for it, but I must say if you don't mind the switch, the Phenom II X6 is the same price and offers MUCH better performance. The only real benefit you'll see from Intel these days is at the high end.
