1gbx2 or 512x4 ddr 400 ram

I will be using a dual 852 Opteron in asus k8n-dl board i plan for 2 gb ddr 400 ram now the question is should i go for 512x4 or 1gbx2 of ram and what will give better performance and how much of a difference.
