1Gbps/1Gbps for $26/month

You can back out of your driveway at whatever speed you want, but that doesn't mean the rest of the roads are going to accomodate your ferrari.

Also US$26 is fairly spendy for the average consumer over there.

Eh adjusted there gdp per capita isn't that far from the us.

And yes I know that say little about the average persons income.

In South Korea, though it's not widely available at this point, 1Gbps internet is unlimited and uncensored.
Given crazily high density population of Hong Kong, it must be unlimited as well.

What can you do?
You can download high quality movies and uncompressed HDTV contents that are xx gigabytes large.

Uh... Won't it be all censored and shit? Kinda pointless then...

Hmmm maybe...
I mean It really shouldn't though due to what was agreed to when china took control of it.

Just don't upload porn. 🙁

Though having looked that is the same in the US, it's normally just not that enforced.

Good point. No need for better than 56k. 🙄

56,000 bits per second is huge! How long would it take you to even count that many bits in one second? Well over a day I imagine. Yet a 56k modem does that EVERY SECOND! You could download a short story, or the text of a wikipedia article, in that one second. It would take you at least 10 minutes to read that short story, yet the 56k modem downloaded it in ONE SECOND!! That's an amazing technological feat! Christ it's so sad how insatiable people are these days.

I can either drive one ferrari or I can drive 100 mercedes at the same time.

I multitask like a mofo so 1G/1G would be sweet.

Retarded analogy is retarded.

Anyway I think America will catch up to this but it will be in large area specific bursts. Also I think the telecommunications that invested tons of money into laying wire are going to be a bit slighted when wireless starts to explode in the industry. What do I have to say to that? SUCK IT YOU GREEDY PRICKS YOUVE STIFLED PROGRESS FOR TOO LONG! DIE IN A FIRE TWICE!

🙂

Honestly I wouldn't know what to do with 1Gbps. I mean I could get a Usenet account and queue up a ton of movies that I'll probably never watch, but that's pretty pointless.

I'd be pretty happy with symmetric 10Mbps, something like that. 🙂

Anyway, as far as censorship, I think Beijing gives Taiwan quite a bit of leniency in how they run things. Pretty sure they don't have to deal with censorship and all that BS that the mainland does.
