1GB Stick or 2x512MB Sticks?

Got a laptop and don't know if I should just get one stick with a gig or two 512's....

Only if his mobo supports dual-channel. I agree with M4H...get a 1 GB stick, think about the future.

Only if his mobo supports dual-channel. I agree with M4H...get a 1 GB stick, think about the future.

IIRC, only the really pricey P4 DTR notebooks support dual channel DDR. At which point, just get 2x1GB. 😀

It's a LAPTOP. By the time he'll need 2 gigs, he'll need a brand new laptop anyway.

Also agreed.

2x 512 sticks in my lappy, and since I don't use it for gaming or anything memory-intensive, its more than enough.
 
both points (expendability and impracticalness of thereof) are valid in some ways.

i would say just get whatever comes out to be cheaper.
