I'm interested in doing a some slight OCing, but not anything that requires a large amount of money. I just got a 3000+ and a VNF3-250. I am looking for 1Gb of RAM that would allow for some headroom, but I have a budget of ~$200, and, obviously, the cheaper the better. I am looking for any suggestions. How is this?

I am open to any other suggestions. If it is not possible to OC for under $200 on RAM, then please let me know. I think it should be, but I have not dealt with any new systems for a while. Or, if an OC just isnt going to be worth anything at that price, could you suggest some cheap, stable RAM?

Thanks in advance.

honestly, I bought my ram from runtime computers. They are decent on price and located near me.

I just bought a 1 gig stick of pc3200 from them for 190 + tax for me out of Michigan

RunTime Computers

they are quite cheap, like when you goto pricewatch, they are the cheapest usually!

Value RAM is not going to OC well. You'd be much better off buying a single stick of 512 PC3500-4000. I recommend a stick of OCZ PC4000EL or 3700EB.

much rather have 1 gig value ram than 512 ram it will be alot smoother for gaming whats the point of having hella fast ram if you have so little?

Couldn't I just get basic 3200 RAM and run everything at 5:6, allowing the HTT to reach about 240-250? Would this be significantly worse than OCing at 1:1 at those HTT levels?

DO exactly that. well not 5:6 but 5:4. 1:1 doesn't mean much on A64's This ram is much better than getting something extremely expensive and only getting 512.... You won't notice a different between fast and slow 512 but you will notice a difference from slow 1024 and fast 512 The slow 1024 will easily win on smoothness and feeling like a fast system while the 512 will drag and hang as soon as you have to jump on the swap file.

stick to the 1 GB of Value ram over 512MB of performance ram...if o/c isnt a big concern, speedy ram is useless

are timings really noticable? no
