I just signed up with 1and1 and I was using the webmail and noticed that it's different from what I've always used.
I've used squirrel mail before. This one, it seems that I am unable to create any mail folders. Is there something I'm missing?
Am I allowed to setup squirrel mail myself? I ask because I was put on hold for almost 20 minutes when I tried to call the contact number and I'm at work.

TIA for any info!

Yes, 1and1 sucks :)

it doesnt suck when its free.
And pretty fast ;) But yes, the CP blows monkey nuts.

Their old 500MB/5GB free for 3 years offer is appealing but I'd rather pay $5.95/mo for 750MB/15GB with 100x more features and better control panel. That's just me though :)

Agreed now. I had to download squirrel mail and set it up which isn't too bad but the horrible part is when I attempted to login to an email account, it wouldn't let me. Then I realized, I had to use the mailbox name as my username which is a random number like 239482394-2. Screw that.

I basically need only 800 meg and the abilitiy to host about 4 domains. I don't want to pay too much (I know, asking a lot) Currently I'm with addaction.net which is pretty good except that they're charging me ~$95 a year.

Actually that one isn't too bad. I checked my files and I only use about 570 megs right now which is probably the most I'll use. How do they compare to telnap.com?

I agree that you don't better control panel and other features and their webmail access sucks but hey free is good for me right now.

hell i'm only using right now like 50 megs of space. when the 3 year deal is over then i will probably get something better.

You install it on the 1and1 server but have fun logging in.
You don't use your email id to login. You have to use the mailbox name instead which is something I'll never memorize.

yes i know about the numbers i already use 5 different email address and have them setup in outlook at home m3669xx-1, 2, 3, etc.

but 1and1 has all that stuff required to make it work, i see you need IMAP the free proffesional trial does not include IMAP only POP3.

well i dont think squirrelmail is for me, oh well it looked pretty good.

Actually once you install it, just login using your hjfdhfd78fd78f78dfdjifd78fd78 username then create a NEW POP account labeled Jnetty99@domain.com

Remember whenever you login to use your FULL E-MAIL ADDRESS as your username.

If you re-install it correctly, login, create a new POP account it should work just fine :)

Ok currently, I only have 1 email address setup through 1and1.com
I logged in using the mailbox name and the password I assigned to that account. I'm in Squirrelmail now.
Do I create a new POP account through the 1and1.com control panel now?

Yes and check it using Squirrelmail or any email client.

Just did. Same deal. It only lets me login using the mailbox ID

I tried username@domain
username+domain <-- currently how I login at addaction.net

Yup, I'm on 1and1 and I confirm the suckiness. Although I don't have much to compare to it since it's my first webhost ever. I may look into that sonataweb.net stuff. I need squirrelmail and I'd like to be able to set up WordPress for a blog. Anyone know how I transfer my domain over to sonataweb? Just ask them or something? Looking at the domain registration, it has this CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED on the status line. Does that mean I need to contact 1and1 first?
