hmm im not sure if this is where this goes but...

im having some trouble installing phpmyadmin. im sure many of you have signed up for the free hosting from 1and1.com

the site gives some info on seting up phpmyadmin but only if you have your domains thru 1and1.com. so if you have a domain by namecheap and hosting from 1and1, how to set it up?? have any of you successfully set it up??

btw, 1and1 support sucks!! been over a week since i sent them an email about how to set it up and still no reply.

thx...

1&1 support is almost non-existant in the US atm, they are not officially open yet.

phpmyadmin needs to know the exact root on the server, which for oneandone will be something like "/kunden/homepages/12/d123456789/phpmyadmin".

You cannot use domains from another provider either, there is no way to do it. Oneandone's setup uses virtual hosts (Shared Hosting), you cannot set dns to there server, it will just return a 400 error. They do this to a) Save money in setup, and b) To try and get you to buy a domain from them.

Overall they are a very good host, one of the cheapest. Their phone support is excellent in the UK, but like I said you will have to wait until Feb of next year before you can expect some decent customer service from them.

Regards,
Dan

I'm using my namecheap domain with my 1and1 hosted site, so you certainly can. I can't help you with phpmyadmin, but if you post your query in this thread, someone probably could point you in the right direction.
