1999-2001 Audi A4 good used car?

Looking for a used car under $10,000 and the 2000 Audi A4 keeps coming up in my searches. I was just wondering what type of repair problems I might have above 100K miles. I know I can get a Honda Civic with less miles in that ball park but the Audi just looks so much better. This car is going to have to last me for a while so I will be driving it well above 100K miles.

Thanks for any feedback!

it's a nice car... i almost got it, but i chose the volvo s40 instead.... i kinda wish i'd gone with the audi.... more roomy and it was just like driving my late, fallen passat 🙁

I heard that Volkswagens made before 2000 are RIDDLED with problems (all kinds of problems), since they were all made in Mexico for some time. Not sure about Audi's, though. Luxury segments of car companies (Acura, Lincoln, Lexus, Audi, etc) are all made in their home countries AFAIK.

At 100K you will have to replace all the control arms, because the ball joins on those things go like no other. Same thing goes for the CV join boots. I wouldn't recommend it as a reliable car over 100K, unless you can find one with a full maintenance record or can do the work yourself. Audi dealers are expensive.

<- owned 96 A4 quattro

not sure what the weather is like in TN, but you may want quattro. easily one of the best AWD systems in existence. the 1.8T engine is a pretty solid engine, never been in the 3.2V6.

Dude will need quattro once every 3 years. Not worth it.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am selling a 2004 Jetta which is nearly paid off. Sounds crazy I know but I want to buy a cheaper car and put the difference in savings. I am not a DIY guys so it sounds like I better look elsewhere.

Any recomendations?

They're good cars, especially the 2000 and 2001 years as that's the end of the B5. Most of the problems with those cars were sorted out by then, but you have to realize that scheduled maintainance will be expensive on any german car at 100k miles.
