I'm thinking about getting a 98 'Stang. It has the 4.6L, 5 speed. Small penis syndrome.
I haven't had alot of experience with the 4.6L and boost. How well does it handle being supercharged, 6-8 PSI? Reliability? I'd love to throw a Roots supercharger on it with a 3" belt and a butterfly air scoop, but I think in Pennsylvania they don't allow stuff poking throught the hood. Me = Pissed. So I'm going to go with a Allen Supercharger kit, using a Eaton M90 blower. It uses all the stock stuff, which is cool, because I don't feel like dickin' around with injectors & fuel curves and burning EEPROMS.
The web sites say around 100RWHP increase, and 100k mile+ reliability. I'd still rather go with a good 6-71 Roots and a 3" belt for looks. This 'charger would make it into a good sleeper though. I'd be pushing more HP than the Cobra Stang. I plan on taking off the heads later and using the SVO heads to make even better flow and HP. Newer Stangs are pretty good about putting HP to the ground, so I don't think I'll have problems there. I am wondering how the 4.6 fairs in real life with boost, and how reliable it is with 6-8 PSI. I don't wanna rip the engine out of a newer Stang with this low of mileage on it because I tossed a rod or swallowed a valve. I don't run my engines hard, but I do like to blow out the carbon every now and then.
I'm getting this, if my Truck sells. It is at $7,600 right now on E-gay, with 6 hrs left. I gotta get $13,500 minimum. If I do, I run and get the stang, beef her up, and make a true American Ricer/Vette/Camaro/Any other stock sports car eater.
