I found a '96 Accent for $5850 CDN. (about $3900 US). It fits my budget almost perfectly. Has anyone here ever owned one? What did you think of it? I'm a college student so I need something that's reliable, fuel efficient, and wont cost an arm and a leg to repair. Thanks. :)

My sister has one. It's alright on fuel economy. The engine is like 95 horsepower so you really have to get on the accelerator to get it moving. It's great in the snow though...probably because the tires are so skinny the weight of the car is concentrated more. As far as maintenance goes, I couldn't really tell you too much. I know that it's been acting up recently (the check engine soon light is on).

Probably because the tires dont spin in the snow ;)
Seriously, if you want to keep you license for a while (as in not get any speeding ticks), it's a good car. Plus you don't have to fill it up every week :Q :D :D :D

Sounds a little expensive for a Hyundai. Don't new ones cost around 4 or 5 thousand?

I'm assuming that's $9000 US. If that's the case then the one I found isn't that expensive. Thanks. :)

Muerto, aren't you Canadian? Keep in mind guys that cars in Canada are more expensive than in the U.S. even when the exchange rate is taken into account (or so I've been told!).

Yea I'm Canadian. I'm looking at the 2001 edition of Lemon-Aid (used car guide) and it said that '96 Accents should be about $5500 CDN. So $5850 doesn't seem that bad.

Car's are more expensive in Canada on average (from what I've seen anyway). I think it's partly the exchange rate and probably that less cars are sold in Canada becuase we have less people.

The price is about right for a Hyundai that year. Mid 90s Hyundai is not too bad because the Korian ironed out most of the bugs that plage their cars. A friend have an Accent since 92 and it is a great car that haven't give him any trouble for over 80000 miles, but he is very good at keeping his car maintenance (oil/filter every 3000 miles).

Personaly I wouldn't get a Hyundai, because they are wimpy little tin box. And, often the original owner abuse the sh!t out of it, because it is a cheap car. Just save up abit more money and get a better car, because it will give you less trouble.

If I were you I would take the bus, because your student fair is only $44.00 a semester which is much cheaper than parking. And, from Saanich to Uvic or Cammosun should take less than 45min on the bus. :Q
