Close but not like the 90's, this decade there are old artists making new songs, the 90's must have been some kind of experimentation period for bands that were rubbish and knew it.

no dude.

rather then battle which decade had better bands, we should battle out which decade had worst bands.

and 80's cheese was SOOOOOOOO much cheesier than 90's cheese

Well, NIN, Offspring, Weezer, Green Day and so on?

Sure, they had the telltale sounds of music, they used instruments and sang, but none of what i heard from those could ever be said to be music.

I only care about NIN, so 21 years of music + respect from peers = music in my book. The man popularized an entire genre and managed to keep up with the times. Although the first time I listened to "Downward Spiral" I had the same reaction: WHY THE FUCK IS ATOT RECOMMENDING THIS?

the green/blue album from Weezer weren't bad either.

I am just curious to hear what he calls "music".

If i want to be extremely bored, perhaps i'll listen to NIN.

Weezer is... even worse.

Regarding what others think of them... that really doesn't make them any better to me, nor does it matter that they have sucked for 21 years, not in the least.

I'm probably quite a bit older than you though and had enough music from the decade before to listen to when the 90's came around.

so then what do you constitute as "good" music?

and I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I didn't like NIN, gave them a shot, didn't like it, gave them another shot 6 months later, now 2 and a half years later I'm a hardcore fan.

That's not really any excuse. My music tends to dip as far back as the 60's, but there's always room for new music. Do you limit yourself to a specific genre? Sub-genre? I listen to everything from rap to opera so I have a lot of choices. I could switch from Smashing Pumpkins to Paul Potts.

Excuse? Did you take that as excuse? Why on earth would i need an excuse for not liking that crap?

I listen to most everything except 90's music, sure, there are som upbeat eurodisco somewhere in the 90's that i could probably enjoy if i ever get that drunk again but other than that... nope.

I don't limit myself to any genre, i can listen to pretty much anything and like it if i do like it, i don't care about what others think about it and i really will tell anyone to shut it off if i don't like it.

It' can be just about anything, pretty much everything from Motorhead, but other than that it's up to the individual song and i really don't get stuck to artists either, if i like it, i don't care who made the fucking song.

Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qNrgQbOE60

And this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9VHl9zbCjY

Very different but still both real music as opposed to that 90's crap.

I find it hard to believe that you like something as generic as Martina McBride and yet can't find at least a dozen other 90's artists that you would like.

The year I graduated high school! Seems like yesterday, but it was 16 freaking years ago! Ugh.

Same here. Crazy that when you realize it was almost half your life ago, doesn't seem like it. That's when you start sounding like an old person and saying stuff like "It seems like it was yesterday!" ;)

I was (and still am) a big fan of the "stoner rock" scene back then. Kyuss is kinda the forefather of that.

A couple songs from their "Welcome to Sky Valley" album, released in 94. Quite possibly my top album of all time.
Whitewater http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcY3UF6_IaM (The solo that starts at about 3min I can never get enough of.)
Space Cadet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wzvy0_K5yxs (Acoustic)
Asteroid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu7TnU9DZKM (Instrumental)

There was also Fatso Jetson, Fumanchu, The Atomic Bitchwax (coincidentally my screen name comes from their song Ice Pick Freek), Helmet, and quite a few more in the next few years. Granted I liked quite a few of the "radio" bands back then (minus the one or two songs the radio would play from their catalog), but if you dug a bit there was an excellent music scene happening and I'd imagine it has been and will always be that way. I don't have quite the same time to dedicate to digging nowadays, but there are still some hidden gems, for me at least. While I don't have time to dig, I still listen to a lot of the music I've come across over the years and am plenty content with that. I'm still a huge music junkie.

It is uncanny, but 1994 was indeed a great year. Both music and my life. 14 entering high school... lots of changes, lots of growing up. And the music... Green Day, Weezer, etc... became the strongest reminder of what it felt like growing up back then. 16 fucking years ago god damn.

I never said i like Martina McBride, i like that song, i don't think i've ever heard another song by her and if i did maybe i'd like it, maybe i wouldn't. I just put that up there to show you the variance and width of my taste.

At least you said nothing bad about Motorhead, good for you, Lemmy WILL smite you if you do, he is, after all, God.

I don't know exactly what year but I'm going to listen to some Ace of Base thanks to that Lady Gaga's song.
