I'm listening to nothing but music from 1994. The really odd thing is, it isn't planned. I'm downloading music at random and listening to it, and it's all from albums from 1994. It's freaky.

Black Hole Sun, Glycerin, Lightning Crashes, Voodoo, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and a very close Tonight, Tonight which is actually 1995.

Q101 in Chicago does the top 100 songs of each year from around 1991 to now each year around new years and then they have people vote on which year had the best music. 1994 has won the past 5 or 6 years straight.

Best song : Nine Inch Nails - Closer

1994...Blur released the follow up to Modern Life is Rubbish. Oasis wooed England with Definitely Maybe. Weezer rocked out to Buddy Holly. It was a fantastic time for music.

The top album for that year was from Live "Throwing Copper". Edit: I may be wrong on this, but heard it somewhere about 10 years ago on a radio show...the Internet seems to have a lot of 'opinions'.

I think the top album of the 90s was Pearl Jam "Ten". There was a lot of really good bands on the rise when the whole rock movement kicked in thanks to Nirvana and Pearl Jam taking over the spotlight from the hair bands. I really there were still bands writing like that. The problem is that the younger generation hasn't had crap to listen to for inspiration the past decade.

In 1994 I was listening to a lot of eurodance music: Ace of Base, Corona, DJ Bobo, Dr. Alban, Ice MC, Twenty 4 Seven, Whigfield, etc. The eurodance scene was big in South America. Too bad you Americans missed it.

What are you talking about? Lots of those groups hit it big in the US, especially Ace of Base. The only reason why people do not talk about them anymore is because they rarely ended up being pop musical foot notes in the end.

I guess I meant that the eurodance scene was much bigger in Europe (obviously) and Latin America than in the US. I mean, that's ALL we used to listen to.

No love for:
Hootie & the Blowfish - Cracked Rear View
Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation
??:(

94 was definitely a good year, but I could make a good case for 1992:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_in_music#Albums_released

Just a few:

Tool - Opiate
Stone Temple Pilots - Core
Rage Against the Machine - self-titled
Prodigy - Experience
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Barenaked Ladies - Gordon
Nine Inch Nails - Broken
R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
Dr. Dre - Chronic
Beastie Boys - Check Your Head

The list of the absolute shit that passed for music around that time can be made much longer, i don't think there is one song that shold ever be remembered or replayed, EVER, from that fuckup of a decade.

I don't understand how anyone can think an entire decade is lacking in music. Music has been around for thousands of years and I doubt a single decade was lacking. I love music.

I kinda agree, not one single decade but the 1990's.

Well, maybe a remake of some song in a fairly good version but other than that... no.
