Okay, I'm thinking about buying a 1994 Camaro that has a Powerdyne supercharger professionally installed. It was previously owned by three different older men (doctor, lawyer, other guy) and it was a garaged weekend driver. It only has 47,000 original miles. (LT1 engine, BTW)

I am thinking about buying it. What should I look for to make sure that it will last and not just blow in a week?

You can bet that car has been hammered on, you think they supercharge cars to drive them gently?

Actually, the guy that owns it now told me he has never floored it and that he has been too scared to.. From looking at him, it seems that way.

The engine looks new under the hood, btw.

Steam cleaning does wonders.

You need a list of everything that they did to the car. LT1s are tough motors, but if they aren't built right... ugh.

I hope you're not going to use this as a daily driver.

What price are you paying? How long ago was the super charger put on?

You'll never know if won't blow, but you could ask to take it to a mechanic to check it out(at least compression).

I agree with Viper. You can rest assured that the engine and transmission has seen some hard use. You don't install an supercharger (let alone hire someone to do it) to drive your grandmother back and forth to the grocery.

Take it for a drive at least.. see if it's good.. take it to a mechanic and have him check it over.. if you like it and can afford it, go for it, if the mechanic gives the thumbs up.

I concur, Go with Vortech, Paxton NOVI's, or the SC series ATI's, anything but Powerdyne

Whipple? On a truck or boat they are great because of their massive low end, most guys with Twin Screws on cars I know (Kenne Bell kits) just go up in smoke and have major fallover on the upper end

also look under the car and see if there are scrapes on the showing parts that is a sure sign of hard use

I don't think i'd ever buy a car that was pre-modded. Typically the original owner has intentions of driving the car hard if he modded it, or else he wouldn't have needed the extra power. I wouldn't make the purchase - too many unknown consequences.

I'd be a bit skeptical about buying a relatively heavily modded car because of abuse issues. However, ask at:

SLP Forums

There you should be able to get some good advice.
