Hey People,
I have a 93 accord ex, i bought the car at 173,000 miles, and now have 198,000. I have had the car for a year..and now my gas mileage, and performance has dropped significantly. I get about 320 miles to the tank, versus 370 previous. I am down to 21-22 mpg compared to 27+ mpg. I have no clue what is causing all these problems....car mechanically seems fine, but something is hampering it. I think im going to do seafoam on the car soon...what you guys thing ?

Also, are radar detectors a good investment ?

could be the yearly winter fuel mixture change(aka 10% less efficiency assrape) at the gas stations.

did it just randomly drop. or did it go slowly down?

a failure in a sensor, broken vac line or something important could be it.

1. Checked air filter, still is clean
2. spark plugs were changed in june, but i think i will change them again soon
3, no CEL, sensors seem fine, i think my cat is gone, because i hear a ratttling noise right near the firewall

before that, i was getting good mileage, the timing belt was changed last year, and other belts. i am using synthetic oil now as well.
I might change my air filter to a KN type.

Have you adjusted the valves when due . Also try a DIY throttle body cleaning . Google for the Honda Accord enthusiast forums for info .

i think my thermostat is shot
my engine was "cold" the whole duration of a 15 mile drive.....that is impossible.
prob going to change that then, and see what happens

I'm guessing the thermostat was the cause. I had to replace mine in my old 91 Accord at roughly the same mileage as you.

had the same car a few years back, with the same problem.

changed the O2 sensor and spark plugs, and mileage went up.

Another vote for air filter if the thermostat doesn't fix it. Also look in the airbox underneath the filter. I had chipmunks filling mine with acorns all the time. When I got it from parents there must've been like a hundred in there and they had been eating on the paper of the filter element. After that I checked it every time I did the oil and pulled out like 5 or 10 each time. I suppose I could've tried to get the intake out of the fender and put a screen over it but it was easier to just pull the acorns out frequently.
