That can be said about just about any small economy car. Even new ones today. Try to find an econo car with a 5 star crash rating. There aren't many (if any). Kinda sad.

This is true. Switch the positions of the cars and you'd see different results. The SUV would have rolled a few more times.

Not quite true. I think there are several small cars that have a 5-star crash rating. Some need side airbags to get a 5-star side crash rating.

The problem is that the star rating is relative to its class. If a car like the Civic has a 5-star rating and a car like the Chrysler 300 has a 5-star rating, the average consumer probably thinks these are equal. They're not! As I said before, the rating is how the vehicle rates relative to other vehicles in its class. It's sad that a 5-star rating could mean a fatality accident at 30mph (ie. Civic getting broadsided by Excursion).

you think your town car would not get punched out by a landrover? you would be dreaming.....side impact at that speed with that kind of weight not much can survive, there simply isn't muchc rumple zone to be had in side impact. even if intrusion doens't crush you, your head smashing into the side without side impact airbags would probably end your life right there alone.

92 was probably before the civic got bars in the door for side impact... not that it would have helped much in this situation. i also doubt your 88tc had side impact door beams.

I really doubt your Lincoln would fare any better at 60MPH. Side crumple zones are weak regardless.

Front-to-side impacts always favor the car with the front impact.
