Judging by the way you write, it looks as though that company has no standards and it's reasonable to assume she can't read. So she may not have known about the "no spouse rule".
Just a hunch.

wtf kind of party is that?

if theres enough booze and the chicks are hot it could be one hell of a party...

compliance? ha, my company's compliance department is better than that. our company (a large brokerage house) doesn't care who comes to our party and get drunk as long as you're over 21.

The last two companies I worked for encouraged spouses/so's to come to their parties. My current one strictly forbids it. I don't get it. They simply say "that's how it's always been".

One of the quirks of a Catholic run organizaion.

As for the OP - compliance departments for brokerage firms are odd ducks. They are sealed away in their own little department and are like the Area 51 of the company.

You mention the word compliance and people just get chills down their spine.

Management doesnt want people (girls) to bring dates so they get drunk and sleep with them.

no spouse parties usually result from a bad party in the past.
Wife comes home and complains about co-worker or boss who is total ass most of the time.
Hubby gets a few under his belt and decks him.
This signals the end of spouses at parties and no-host bars🙂
