We have the technology!

With intro's like this, who need's the show?

Here's a penny Mickey...thanks for the gumball!

I HAD THAT MICKEY GUMBALL MACHINE!!! Awesome! I forgot about that thing. I remember I broke it by putting marbles in it :)

Another toy I remember from the 70's was a movie projector- it had cartridges that you would plug into the side of the projector, you would turn a crank on the side, and it would play movie clips ("page flip" style!) of cartoons like The Flintstones, Jabber Jaw, and Scooby Doo on a small screen about 12" away from the lens. I would line my Matchbox cars up by the screen and pretend it was a drive-in :)

EDIT- HA!! Found it!: http://www.timewarptoys.com/cmproj.jpg

I remember that as a really 'fun' song...I don't think of 'fun' when I see it now, lol. :D

Saturday mornings in the 70s were a trip. Sugar cereals for breakfast and shows like these were my childhood:

Lidsville
Sigmund and the Seamonsters
SHAZAM!
Electrawoman and Dynagirl
Far out Space Nuts
The Lost Saucer

And who could forget the classic:

LAnd of the Lost

Sleestacks used to scare the hell out of me for some reason (those and those creepy Pylons!)

Shaazam! That dude was awesome. I think that's what turned me onto greek mythology...I wanted the same annointing. :) What a flashback, I enjoyed that one.

Funny thing about Land of the Lost...I don't remember it looking fake. :p At that age, apparently I wasn't too critical about special effects. Watched it very often tho (which is about all I remember about it.)

One of my favourite memories of being a kid in the 70's was listening to the radio my mom always had on in the kitchen, and wondering why a girl was singing songs about another girl. (Graham Russell from Air Supply) lol :p

haha

Elton John and Cher do Bennie and the Jets on the Cher show - Elton has a higher voice than her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AyxRxifQJk

Elton lost his 'highs' long ago, but when he had them he had a great range. Too much smoking I believe. Great video tho, new to me. Elton was incredible in the 70's.

Nice one.

+1. Truly one of the signature songs of what's great about the 70's music era.

I remember jamming to these guys on July 11, 1979 when there was a news flash that Skylab (the US Space Station) was reentering the atmosphere and burning up!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RJPaj97H24&

That was my 'adrenaline song' when at the roller rink on saturday night trying to collect phone numbers. That was well before I knew what a 'hookup' was tho. :D

I had the Super Stocker and Sonic Racer, among several others.

SSP's! I was totally into these, especially the drag racer style ones. They could seriously jam down the road, or create an @ss-kicking-worthy destruction inside the house. :oops:I also seem to remember having some 4 wheeler style ssp's that when the bumber ran into something, the hood and doors popped off, lol.

haha, nice couch...looks like a holdover from the '60's. :D

No 70s thread cannot have mention of the Bee Gees!

One of their best songs IMO:

Oh and those 70s haircuts!

These guys are what comes to mind for many people that weren't around then. They are a double-edged sword for the 70's...great musicians but the 'coolness' factor left quickly and are associated with what 'sucked' in the 70's. That's not a fair charicature tho.

My friend had both of those but not me. :( He also had this thing where you put in some candy/taffy, it would make an imprint into it and deliver a cool looking piece of candy at the end. He was the most spoiled kid I've known to date. (not to mention his fvcking Big Wheel...I never got one of those either. :( )

I don't recall the projector, none of us had one (unless this kid did and didn't show me, lol.)

I had this other viewer thing where you look thru it like binoculars and insert a disc to watch a movie frame by frame, advancing each frame by pressing a lever. Each frame had a picture and part of the story. My favorite one was Gulliver's Travels. The pics seemed so real, him a giant against these tiny 'liliputians'. :D

Those were the Smash Up Derby versions.

I eventually had 6 of them - two were sent free by Kenner when I requested parts to repair the front bumpers on my first two. That was an unexpected package!

The '70s sucked. The '60s were "cool." The '80s were "Rad." Except for StarTrek, TV was an abysmal wasteland of bad programming.

Um, maybe in syndication? The original Star Trek series was on the air from 1967 to 1969, and the first motion picture didn't come around until 1980.

Star Trek on wikipedia

There was the cartoon version during the 70's, though..... :hmm:

I was never a Sabbath follower, but after watching that...they're jamming like they've been playing metal together for 40 years instead of playing 40 years ago, helping to usher in the great era of heavy metal.

Stop! :p

They were great musicians, something too many people dump on the 70's for.

Recently "discovered" Pink Floyd, so I would have to say The Dark Side of the Moon.

You're never too young or old, and it's never too late to come to appreciate the musical genius of Pink Floyd.

haha.

During a little league practice, I slid into 3rd base in my shorts. There weren't bases out tho, we were using gloves as base markers instead. But the metal base pegs were still in the ground, and it gashed my knee open to ridiculous proportions.

Ugh...every since the sox dawned those uniforms I think of that day when I see them.
