Today, NVIDIA posted new drivers that resolve the customer reports of fan speed issues with 196.75 drivers.

Download the New 197.13 Drivers (Posted March 17th, 2010):
Windows 7 and Windows Vista (32-bit)
Windows 7 and Windows Vista (64-bit)
Windows XP (32-bit)
Windows XP (64-bit)

NVIDIA apologizes to any GeForce owners that installed the 196.75 driver and experienced quality issues. For the small number of customers that did experience problems, in almost every case reverting back to our 196.21 driver immediately resolved their issues. We continue to work closely with our add-in-card partners and PC manufacturers to help resolve any additional customer issues not solved by reverting to the earlier driver. Any GeForce owner who has questions about their board as a result of downloading the 196.75 drivers should contact their board supplier.
Customers that need help contacting their board supplier can get help from NVIDIA Customer Care.

Will these work with 5800FXs? Maybe they'll make the blower reverse and I can use the PC as a central vacuum system!

So are these hotfix-esq drivers that simply fix the older release or are they a full release with improvements beyond 196.75 as well? WHQL cert?

Edit: Nvm, should have followed the rabbit hole. WHQL release + some nifty perks!

so am I crazy? everyone keeps saying these are WHQL but I am not seeing that and they are listed as beta drivers on the Nvidia site.

They're "WHQL candidate", so AFAIK Nvidia sent these off to Microsoft to be certified, and will post them as WHQL with a different version number, but it'll be the same driver.

Whups I managed to read candidate as certified and read it as WHQL-certified drivers.

Although I'm sure these drivers will install and uninstall fine, I'll just wait for the WHQL release and stick with the 196.21's for the time being.
