OR, (not exactly using new technology in this case) The large scale migration of US farmers from growing wheat for food to corn for ethanol, which can cause food around the world (since US is a big exporter of foodgrains)

Watch the Last Samurai (as an example, not all out fact). Westernization/McDonaldization is spreading across the globe. When all these countries are in a rush to become "modern," they forget some of the original ideals that their country was founded upon. It's a sad sight to witness. That's not to say a country should live in the past. But rather, they should find a healthy mix of the past, as well as the present.
 
The demise of beating your kids is what I would say. Can you imagine what the future is going to be like with grown up kids that haven't felt pain?
