yikes!! Mine gets 60-65C on an hour of gaming! In an Antec Sonata with one single fan in the back.

God damn! That's unbelievable! And you have no issues?

It seems hot but the fan profile puts the fan speed to 68% when the temps reach 97C.

It has to go to 100C for the fan to go to 100%.

With the fan running 100%, the temps reach 78-79C. It might have hit 80C for a second, but I never noticed it. I might run it at 100%.

Ok. So, I've done more research and this is what I've also found....a newegg review.....

Pros: To continue with my rant about this card. As I mentioned earlier my first card was bad and rma it for a replacement. Just got the replacement card, but the same blocky discolored artifacts persisted in 3D games.

Cons: sorry not cons, but Solution: I found out later that it's my system as a whole. My system consist of a E4400 @ 2.57Ghz and Asrock 4CoreDual motherboard. The motherboard has got both AGP and PCI-e X4 slots. When I overclock my cpu to a FSB of 285MHz the PIC-e was getting overclocked as well even though it was shown as not overclocked. The solution is to set the FSB and PCI-e frequencies to AUTO mode. Everything is fine after that. I'm running Vista 32bit version with Catalyst 7.7.

Other Thoughts: The card is HOT! So use either ATI Tools or ATI Tray to change the fan speed. I have to monitors and saw that the GPU temperature went up to 75C while gaming. (idle is 45C with room @ 20C) The voltage modulator temperature get to 80C. (kind of scary) I'll need to do something about that. Good Luck gamers.

I'm at work so I can't try it out, but I HOPE this fixes my problem.

So this was the problem. No more OCing on this board for me.

Not really. The graphics of my games look better and run faster then they ever have before, coming from an X800XT All in one Wonder as my last AGP card. It should be noted that these temps came from running the fan at 33%, which I set in ATI tool to make my system nearly silent. I should probably turn it up higher. >.< The nice thing about the fan is that it blows all the heat out of the case. My case temps are about 33c with my cpu at about 37c on stock. As a whole I'm impressed with it.

I blast the volume on my games, so I don't really hear the fan.

When I turn down the sound though, the card sounds like a jet engine.

I mostly play WoW, where the sound often has more of a subtle, passive feel to it.

Oddly enough, I just quit it and my temps were 72c. I can't imagine how they could have been 90 earlier under full load.

that thing is LOUD at 50 %, if you run it at 100 % then you need some nice headphones or a REALLY LOUD game to drown it out. One time I set mine to 100 % in ati tool just to hear if it was really that bad. it is. it really does sound like a jet engine.

I have been playing mostly civ4 bts and a little kotor lately. I know when I get above 80c b/c the fan kicks up a notch, but neither one of those ever puts it there for long. I'm sure that numerous modern games could keep the fan cranked up in the annoying-or-worse zone, however.

Look on the bright side.

You could set the 100% fan on 85C and it could act like an alarm system. Once you hear the jet engine, you know the temps are at 85C.

Is there a temp gauge on the memory chips?

That's insane, 93C is almost 200F.
93C isn't that hot; it's a little on the high side but video cards are built to take that kind of heat under load.

My old passively cooled X800 XL could hit 105C under load and that was one of the most stable video cards I've ever used. I literally tortured it with gaming for six months and it never faltered.

I would like a better cooler myself, but I want one that exhausts the heat outside the case similiar to the stock cooler. Any suggestions?

Zalmans VF900-cu is a great heatsink. I have aplied to my own X1900XTX and now for my friends 1950pro. The heat decrese is quite amazing, we are talking about 10-20c drop with both cards under idle and load. And those degrees are with the fan turned into minimal RPM. I dunno how ATI managed to produce so bad reference heatsinks for these cards :/

And yes I do believe you could use X19xx cards reference heatsink for torture. Just aplly 100% fan speed and let your ears bleed.

i myself am just about to RMA a Sapphire x1950xt 256mb version... my situation, card was running mega hot (around 90 load - and i am in UK not that hot ambients tbh!), so i set the fans to spin harder using ATT (seems insane to me that the stock settings allow the card to get soo hot before uping the fan speed), anyway after some use i noticed weird artifacts and after my system hanged whilst playing BF2, i noticed someting eve weirder. The card had set itself to 500mhz GPU and like 300mhx RAM instead of the default 625mhz GPU and 300mhz RAM... when i try to set these back to stock the machine just automatically re-boots and resets to the low settings :S

Anyway, its going back asap - am just slightly regretting my first ever ATI purchase now as i have never had problems with nVidia - but the x1950xt was supposed to be best bang for buck for my price range so i thouhgt i would give it a try!

Mayb there is a slightly bad batch of these Sapphires going about if many ppl are having similar problems???

Are you sure the 500MHz wasn't just 2D clocks?

Bit of an update, my temps are way down. I can't account for why, but after my first week my temps have yet to hit anywhere near 90c again. Under full load I'm at 68c under full load at 50% fan speed.

Could it be wear in?

man, I can't count how many peeps have antec 900, hx 520, x1950xt, some form of c2d, 2x1gb ddr2...I feel like such a sheep...

Anyway, I tried ATI tool when I first got the x1950xt, but it ran extremely hot at idle and literally made room much warmer. I finally relented and installed catalyst. It defaulted to 2d/3d clocks, and I'm so glad that I finally learned about them! 2d clocks lower the stock settings to 500 core and 594 memory when in 2d mode (ie, not gaming). gpu idles at 48c now instead of 62c. iirc from ati tool, fan doesn't go above 27 % until 80c, then gradually turns into a jet engine at 100c at 100%.

I'm not saying that rma isn't the right idea for you, but I'd uninstall att and try CCC or even ntune before resorting to rma.

Hi, I have a 256mb sapphire x1950xt vga card but my psu doesn't have a pci-e connector .. so . I bought a external pci-e power cable today , but my card doesn't run with this cable ;

http://img514.imageshack.us/im...cablepci185x225qv0.jpg

The two brown cable connect together to one pin .. so other cables are (2 black and 2 yellow) connect with seperate,, so there is a 5 pin ? there is no sixth pin ?

I think my vga card doesn't run this cable ? you think ? Is there any different pci-e cable like this ?

If your power supply doesn't have any kind of connector that fits a PCIe card the PSU might not even be able to push such a card, even with the right cable. Any info on the power supply you can give us?
