is it possible to test the system with another videocard? it would definatly narrow down the problem to videocard or not.

I threw my old 6800 oc back in and it runs fine.
I heard the 1950's are power hogs and I am wondering if I am pulling to much juice...

I have 2 HD's and 1 cd rom and a DVD burner on my system
along with a

The X1950Pro doesn't take that much power...you should be able to run that setup on a decent 400W PSU no problem. I'd probably ask CompUSA if you can swap out cards for a different one.

along with this power supply........

I install the card everything powers up but I have no video, I can hear the HD and everything running and no beeps from my MB..

what can cause this to happen ?
is this card doa or is the power supply to weak to run this card?

well, it wouldn't be my first choice of a power supply. from one of the reviews on compusa's page:

"I bought this to replace a Antec 500watt Smartpower 2.0 which had died due to a power surge i think, well my computer still wouldn't work after buying this and after RMAing my motherboard and video card with no results, i finally got my new Antec back from RMA and when i put in the Antec again my problems were solved. the Coolermaster could only boot up my computer without my graphics card installed. worst PSU i have ever used, and there was nothing seriously wrong because my PSU tester said it was fine, it just lacked the ability to function on even a small power load."

and another:

"Don't waste your money. Lasted 3 months before going out!!! I purchased this junk in October and it only lasted until January. The worst power supply I ever seen."

and yet another:

"This power supply has very spotty reviews all over the web, and for good reason. If your components don't draw much power, it appears to be doing its job just fine. I used this supply to power a medium range gaming system with an athlon64 3500+, an asus A8N-SLI deluxe, a BFG Geforce 6800 gt, 1gb corsair ram, and a 4 drive array. It booted right up and appeared to be doing well until anything requiring high power consumption started. Every game I started caused a hard reboot, defragging all 4 drives simultaneously did the same, any stability testing program did this as well. When I looked over the voltages, they were all over the map, and not stable at all. Voltage regulation was greater than 5% off on both the +12 and +5 rails, and were moving as I watched. They were generally low anyway, and took a dive resulting in the inevitable crash when the system was stressed. A known good power supply works perfectly with this system, but it is in my main rig and is therefore occupied. AVOID AT ALL COSTS."

there's likely a reason it's $50 at a B&M store...

i would get a different psu, and it wouldn't hurt to exchange that card for another either (yes, psus can destroy video cards, hard drives, etc.)

good luck!

Why people will spend several hundred on top of the line computer parts and pair them with a cheapo generic power supply is beyond me.

You want a good one. The Antec NeoHE 550 has been running in my rig without a hitch for at least six months. Triple 12V 18A rails FTW!

what is the 12v output of that coolermaster PSU ?, sounds like it might not be supplying enougth power to the video card....

OR

the VisionTek is toast...

this is what my MB says for the AGP slot...
1 x AGP slot (8x/4x-AGP 3.0 compliant), supports 1.5v display card only

does that mean I cannot use an 8x only card?
but isnt my 6800 oc 8x only?

I cannot figure out why it wouldnt work in my system.

what motherboard do you have?

if it states that it is AGP 3.0 complaint then it supports AGP 8x operation

also not sure if it matters when I run dxdiag it doesn show my MB only says "award_"
though cpu-z sees the mb.

hmmm interesting, that Video card should work then...it has the ULi chipset on it IIRC, it should be compatitible, Gigabytes usually have a good track record...

I gathered from your earlier post that both the Video card and PSU were tested and they check out OK...

did they test them both together to see if the PSU can supply enougth power to the Video card?

yea they tested it with and without the psu I bought.
I am stunned by this, no idea whatsoever why no video output, only thing I can think of now is that it was not seated all the way in, though I was 99 % sure it was in as far as it could go.

I put in my 6800 that I am trying to replace and it works fine.

Could be old traces of nvidia drivers not being removed by std nvidia removal tools causing problems. I would use Driver Cleaner and give Ati and nvidia driver remnants a good cleaning and then try it.

I think it has something to do with the voltage though it says its 3.0 it only can use cards that are 1.5v which is weird.

that being said is there an easy to tell which cards do 1.5v? is it just cards that can do 4x agp? or is it alot harder?

BFG GeForce? 7800 GS OC?
http://www.bfgtech.com/7800GS_256.html

whatever you do ... *don't* pair a x1950p with a cheapass PS [!]

the Sapphire 512 really *needs* 450w with 30a on the 12v rail to assure stability

. . . and i 'downgraded' from my x1950p to a 7800GS OC ... $160 after $50 MIR at NewEgg [$250 at Best buy :p]

less picky about power -- and nearly as powerful a video card

IF a 6800 works in your MB ... then the x1950p or 7800GS should also ;)
