1920x1080 monitors ..... why?

You need to look at the business line of monitors. Consumer models are made to be cheaper and have FULL HD!!!1!! in order to compete for the clueless consumer.

HP ZR24w 24-inch S-IPS LCD 1920 x 1200 ~$400

They are all super shit resolution 1366x768 nowadays, whatever happened to 1000+ vertical lines of resolution?

The worst is when they have big 14 or 15 inch screens that SHOULD be like 1920x1080 or whatever, and they are pretty much at 720P... yech!!!!

yea my 6 year old dell inspiron 8600 (iirc) has a 15.4 in screen that does 1920x1200

when i look at specs of LPs today i just facepalm

I use a 16:10 24in as my main monitor, and then I've got an old 5:4 turned on it's side to 4;5 running 1024x1280 as my second.... and that combo works pretty good for most things...

Keep costs down. Any business machine is going to have pretty kick ass resolution.

I find the mainstream resolution of most new computer moniters is now 1920x1080. That is simply unacceptable. I bought a couple of moniters back in 2008 - a 24 inch Hyundai for $500 and a 24 inch LG for $600 both with 1920 x 1200 (1200p?). Both are crisp, vibrant MVA/PVA panels (not TN crap).

I was looking for a new moniter for my dad and bought a 24 inch 1920 x 1080. I used it for a half a day and could no longer stand it. Where was the bottom half of my screen?!!! D:

I know what moniter makers were thinking - they thought that they could "wow" uneducated consumers and save money at the same time. Just brag that their moniter is now "1080p"! Stupid people would not know that they are losing 120 extra lines of resolution.

Just got a 22" w/ 1920x1080 a couple weeks ago. Coming from a 1280x1024 19 incher I'm just happy to have my screen match the aspect ratio of all the video I watch. Technically I'd like an extra 120 vertical pixels, but frankly 1080 lines on a 22 incher results in tiny, squint-inducing text, so I can only imagine how minuscule it'd be with 1200 lines packed in there.

I actually lost an inch in screen height from my old screen. >_<

Yup. That's what I'm putting up with right now. Pixel density is still slightly too high for me with 1920x1200 at 27.5"

my 2005 15" laptop is 1920 x 1200

my desktop 21.5" 1920 x 1080 cost me $64. (thx staples coupon!)

i would upgrade to 1920 x 1200 in a heartbeat if i can find a cheap one! (~$125 after coupon)

I treasure the extra vertical pixels on my 1920x1200 monitor. Love its P-MVA panel. Would dread going to a TN.

Those 1366x768 displays are horrible. Vertical display is stuck in 2001. (think 1024x768!) Although the folks with bad peepers that ran their Samsung 213Ts (1600x1200) at 800x600 like them. :thumbsdown:

And Ive got a sneaky suspicion that 16x10 or greater will be next "discovery" for mainstream to upgrade to one day. When that day comes is anyones guess, however.

ps. Even my old $2k VIAO from 2006 is 1280x800 on a slim, lightweight 13.9 display.

You can get used to almost any resolution, especially between ones so close in specs. Comeon 120 lines really? I have a 27" 1920x1200 monitor that I use for my PC and PS3. The PC is obviously set to 1920x1200 but the PS3 only does 1920x1080 and so there are small black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I don't notice them AT ALL. I know they are there, and if I look for them I'd notice them but I'm more interested in the content on the screen than 120 dark lines.

You can get used to anything, just stop obsessing about it and enjoy the content that is on the screen.

i still miss the 150 lines i lost moving from a 19" CRT at 1600x1200 to a 20" LCD at 1680x1050. i scroll up and down all the time, the vertical real estate is important. no sense to me at all of buying a monitor only 30 lines taller.
