1920x1080 monitors ..... why?

I find the mainstream resolution of most new computer moniters is now 1920x1080. That is simply unacceptable. I bought a couple of moniters back in 2008 - a 24 inch Hyundai for $500 and a 24 inch LG for $600 both with 1920 x 1200 (1200p?). Both are crisp, vibrant MVA/PVA panels (not TN crap).

I was looking for a new moniter for my dad and bought a 24 inch 1920 x 1080. I used it for a half a day and could no longer stand it. Where was the bottom half of my screen?!!! D:

I know what moniter makers were thinking - they thought that they could "wow" uneducated consumers and save money at the same time. Just brag that their moniter is now "1080p"! Stupid people would not know that they are losing 120 extra lines of resolution.

MVA/PVA panels are crap compared to IPS panels.

You mean 1920?

I empathize, btw. If nothing else, I'd rather see a single ratio, whichever it is. I'd prefer 16:10, but so many tvs out there are 16:9, just go with that.

Just as you (and most people it would seem) strongly prefer 1920x1200, I (and a few others) strongly prefer 1920x1080. Also, it helps that I want a huge screen, and TVs are all 1080. But even for standard monitors I prefer it...

But, but why? Maybe you just havent been spoiled to the extra length like I have. This whole 1080 stuff is for the birds. The birds I tells ya!

It's probably much more efficient from a manufacturing perspective to have a single panel for your TV and monitor lines and 1920x1080 won that battle.

Its better for gaming

16:9 aspect ratio is better suited for games, videos.
16:10 aspect ratio is suited for productivity.

For me.. its a easy choice, 1080P all the way.

Yes, but I want to buy it at Best Buy or Frys because of the easy return policies and no shipping charges. All they carry is 1080 crap.:'(

Umm...Dell small business has a much better return policy than Best Buy or Frys. Order directly from Dell.
You don't even need to own a business to buy from them.

1920x1200 is pretty damn nice. 1080 isn't so bad either but not sure if i'd want it on my computer screen. interestingly enough, whe n iplay SC2 i have to scale it down to 1080 so i can see more on the screen.

Sorry, but how can you say a return policy where you have to SHIP something back's better than being able to drive down the street and return it in 5 minutes? BB has no restocking fee either, when I bought my LCD 5 years ago I ended up returning 3 because they had hella dead pixels. That would have been hell if I had bought it online, even if the company I bought from paid for my return shipping.

Pshaw. Videos and games look even better in 1200p from my perspective. Plus, I can have bigger spreadsheets and looking at JPEGs is more awesome at 16x10.

Try buying a laptop now...It seems that 99% out there have 720p screens....I settled for a 1400x900 screen on my 14" Dell E6410....still way better than 768 rows...
