Yellowstone National Park used to be the same way, no guard rails, no restrictions. Someone could walk anywhere, pitch a tent, and sleep the night, no one could tell them no.

Until the first idiot figured out he could win a lawsuit full of cash.

Bah, if we allow that type of foolish behavior, you're going to see people with big SUV and Harley motorbike lining up the edge of the Grand Canyon to take pictures, fat-asses who are too lazy to walk from the the parking lot. Imagine what that could do to the plants and animals if people could park their damn vehicles anywhere they want.

Not to mention the damage that the current number of people visiting national parks would cause. People could get away with that when it was a pain in the ass to get to the parks, but the shear number of idiots who visit every year would quickly destroy some of the more sensitive areas. Read about the shit people threw in the geysers: http://www.yellowstonepark.com/2014/03/this-is-yellowstone-things-stuffed-down-a-geyser/

Damn right. Who knows best? You or the US government?

:colbert:

Who know best the lower 2 sigma of the American population or the government? That gets a lot harder to answer since we don't really go for Darwinism these days.

Just looking at that pic scares me. I hate heights. We've taken the kids to the Grand Canyon, Eiffel tower and other places high and I stay far back from railing. They have this one spot thats all glass walkway under you and I didnt even step on it.

We used to drive up to the Pali Lookout on Oahu and hang our legs over the edge like that after climbing to the side a bit while drinking beer, he he.

The ones to the left of this pic, actually found the exact spot in a pic.

But I used to do a lot of silly things.
