I have been thinking about getting a 1911. I have fired many of them and they are a great pistol to add to a collection.

The one I want is a 1938-1944 WWII era Colt, Ithaca or Remington/RAND manufactured.

A nice condition one goes for around $700 and up (depending on many factors).

Anyone have one? What do you have? Modern, reproduction, remanufactured? Just curious.

I have a SIG GSR1911 and a Springfield Armory PX9154L 1911,both of them are good shooters. Singers are rare I think they only made 500, dont think you'll see many at shows. :)

The only place I would have a chance to see one is at the Ohio Gun Collector's Shows, which are usually collectible guns only, very very high dollar stuff.

Odd that there are so few replies, I know there are a bunch of 1911 owners on here.

Same here.

Edit: I do have a Walther P38 at my parent's house. My grandfather brought it home as a war trophy. Have the pistol, leather case, belt with Nazi buckle. :)

My grandad had one, an old one, WWII issue I believe, thing kicked and rattled like nervous horse, but it blew big holes in whatever it hit. I was also pretty young when I got to fire it, so maybe an adult could control it better.

Actually I think every gun made in the last 100 or so years is on my list, some even multiple times.

I really want the extended magazine, modern 1911

I will probably buy one next year... I wonder if it would be better to try to find it at a gunshow or actually order it.... I want to go the tinfoil hat route and try to minimize government intervention....

My Dad and I have three between the two of us. He owns two, I have one.

Mine is a Norninco 1911 clone. At the time I bought it, it was all I could afford and it's been rock solid. I'll probably buy one of those full-sized Tactical Combat Black Stainless models for myself when I get my Masters degree.

If it doesn't have to be an authentic 1911, Springfield makes a GI45 that's nearly identical to those issued in WWII. They're dirt cheap too.

Personally, I'd spring for the modern full-sized model. The new Springfield won't have the collector value and a newer 1911 has more features (like the Novak cut sites on the Springfields that are easily replaced)

If you buy it from an FFL, there's going to be a record of it. Even buying it new from a gunshow, any dealers are going to run the background check right there (and the government will have a record of the purchase). You might be able to find a used one.

Are you talking about the double-stack 1911s? My Dad and I use 10 round Chip McCormick magazines in our 1911's for some of the competitive shooting we use. They're very good magazines and seem to be free of the feeding problems that occur with cheaper 10rd mags.

1911 -- so much you can do with one. You can even get a new top assembly to shoot cheap .22 LR ammo with.

I'd like to, someday, but I don't own a handgun yet.

I have a series 80 Colt Officer's Model I bought new about 13 years ago. I also have a government model size Para-Ordnance LDA 7.45 which is based on the 1911 but with a modified trigger/hammer system. It gives a light double action pull which is very smooth and long. It also allows a hammer down carry on a chambered round since the hammer cocks every time you pull the trigger. It will take any magazine that fits the 1911. I have 4 8 rnd Wilson mags for it which I think are the best.

I almost bought a very nice looking used Colt Commander model a few months ago but the frame/slide fit was very loose so I decided against it.

I have a Springfield 1911A Ultra Compact V10 w/ Lasergrip sight.

It is by far my favorite pistol.
