I have been looking at getting into LCD's for a while, and I am a gamer, and I think I am willing to take the plunge to LCD after a long time of my OLLD 21" Trinitron CRT, which has been really really dim and dark for me. Anyways, the 2001fp has a lot of hype, and is more expensive by a significant amount, so I'm starting to lean toward the 1905fp, regardless of the 20ms response time vs. the 16ms response time. As someone put it, choosing what to get based on response time alone is about as dumb as getting a cpu based on GHZ alone. So I figure the best I can do is get subjective opinions about this monitor.

Oh yeah, also if you have the Samsung 193p I would like to hear those opinions as well, as it is the same panel.

Also, before I am flamed for going LCD as a gamer, one big reason is that I cannot watch movies happily on my crt at the moment, even with PowerStrip, because of the darkness, so I am ecstatic about getting a bright crisp monitor. Also, have been playing DOTA recently more than FPS's, so am not too worried about freaking out about ghosting.

But yeah, any related opinions or anythign are greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
George

I received my 1905 yesterday. There were like 9 dead pixels. Ok so maybe I am unlucky. I thought, "I'll just get a replacement.". While I have this one, lets look at some games. Evey game I tried had ghosting. Some were so bad that the game was unplayable (doom3, COD). Just my 2 cents.

I recieved mine yesterday as well, as an upgrade over my 17 inch Samsung 753DF CRT. The only two games i've tried so far are World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2. There's definitely noticable ghosting, but for me i actually don't notice/care too much. It really seems just like something i'd get used to and doesn't bother me too much. For someone whose been gaming on a higher size/quality CRT, it would probably be more apparent and annoying. Working in windows is absolutely beautiful though. Haven't had a chance to try a DVD, but i'll mess with that tonight.

The 2d and color are awesome. But maybe I am very sensitive to ghosting. I know that I am very sensitive to refresh rates on crts. Anything under 75 hz and i can see the screen flickering. So maybe its just me.

From what I have heard about this monitor it does have very bad ghosting. Of course you may not notice it but MANY people have reported it has it bad.

If you're a gamer, i don't think you'll be happy with the 20ms response time. Personally, i think 16 is high. There are some good 8 and 12 ms panels out there that should be reasonably priced.

I just got my 1905FP. I switched from a Samsung 900NF CRT. I've used it for a day or so and here are my views. Using it at 1280x1024x32 60 hz. Running it on Ti4200 DVI

Brilliant colors and clear text (Not too used to CLearType Font though)
The colors seem a bit bleached due to the high brightness. I 'm trying to play around with the RGB settings but can't seem to find the right combi yet. That said, colors are still pretty great
Ghosting- Not apparent to the playing eye. I don't seem to notice any ghosting unless I look very specifically at an object. I've been playing HL2 and did not really see any apparent ghosting.

How does it compare to my 900NF? Frankly, the 900NF is a superior monitor. Great colors and super sharp text. But it's also a monster. LCD's in my view are still a notch below CRT's for the most demanding functions but for most other purposes are very good. The asthetic size of a LCD is more than enough to warrant replacement for CRT's for all but the most demanding functions.

Ive used both the 1905FP and the Samsung 910T and for text the 910T sucks, I get headaches all the time with it. Havent even tried games with the 910T. The 1905FP is brighter, way better in text and works fantastic with every single game I have thrwon at it. I have seen very minumal ghosting in NFSU2, HL2 or any game for that matter. The only thing I dont like about the 1905FP is that DVDs look like crap. And being that I use it in DVI mode I cannot control the brightness or contrast and i hate having to control that in sw. I choose the dell 1905FP over the samsung 910t. Of course, this is just my opinion.
