You know, this reminds me of the guys who get Linux help by starting a flamefest with 'Linux is a pile of crap because it can't <problem they are too lazy to research> like Windows!'

That being said, if you get chop at 800x600, it's so not your video card. Even low end cards can deal with that resolution. It could be any number of problems, hardware and software. But most likely, as everyone said, is a faulty or out of date chipset driver installation. Which is not the same thing as the video card driver.

The X1900XTX is the fastest, highest quality single GPU consumer card on the planet. There is nothing better unless you go multi-gpu, which has its own share of pitfalls.

Just out of curiosity, what is your score on 3dmark05?

nah this guys remions me of my freind who said linux sucks cuz its too hard to install. when asked if he even tried installing the ubuntu cd i gave him he said no. when asked if he had evewr installed windows he said NO. lol. and to think that guys studying to be a computer engineer. hahaha.

anyway OP use the bloody edit feature and change the topic title. the x1900xtx is the most loved card in AT forums and calling it crap is not making freinds really. now if oyu asked humble like all the other ppl you might get some help from the awesome ppl here.
also quit asking about OCing. its not gonna help you. last i'll suggest thisa topic title.

"can't get games to run well..
even on a x1900xtx...please help. "

MW for one will stutter on any card regardless of the framerate. It has something to do with the physics in that particular game.
Do you stop to see if you know what you're saying before you talk?

I guess you don't. 😛 See this thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1840051&enterthread=y

I have changed my video card and other things since then and nothing has changed with the stuttering. I think it's the ingame car physics (the camera movements in the menus don't exhibit this), especially as Doom 3 has a similar problem and in that it's due to the way the physics works.
I've played it for hours on end with zero stuttering. Fix your rig bud.

You probably just don't notice it. It only shows up when the framerate passes a certain point, and looking at that thread I'm not the only one experiencing it.

I saw that as well, an odd occurrence for sure. But its not universally that game causing that problem for everyone. It is a combination of that game and your rig or your install. NFS:MW has no problems for many people, don't pigeon hole it for everyone else.

but most wanted demo still stutters a lot at 12X10 MAX AA and AF

Demos are demos, try the patched full version.

Who cares about MW anyway? I sure don't 😛

*fires up the gamecube and goes back to Paper Mario*

What card do you have? The evidence I've seen indicates otherwise, but you could be right. It happens on both of my systems though.

What about FEAR? And what did you do to solve the problem? nForce drivers?

I need to put my rig back in my sig:
Opty 170 @ 2.4GHz
2x1GB DDR400
400GB Seagate SATA 7200RPM
Played NFS:MW with OC'd 7800GT, just installed X1900XT

I reisntalled xp after formatting drives, reinstalled latest drivers.
quake 4 demo fine, mentioned above

can keeping windows firewall on slow down most wanted

Well, what do you think? It watches your network subsystem...

Are you using that playing MW? Have you tried Google first?

I think the best advice you can be given right now is to re-read this thread thoroughly because you haven't replied to certain posters who have asked you important questions. Questions that it appears you have totally ignored.

Either that, or list EVERYTHING you have tried in one post.

Because I certainly can't be arsed to scroll through it again.

I actually went through 5 pages of it thinking what I could do to help and then saw this:

And that made me annoyed that I'd even bothered.

List everything you have tried in ONE post so that it's easier for the rest of us to follow.

And do something with your attitude. Otherwise you'll get NO help on here.
