1900gt overclocking

So I finally put the card in the machine, surprisingly works well with a supposedely crappy antec SL350. Overclocking wise, it is mixed bag of feelings.

The memory seems to clock quite well, going from 657 to 855. The core, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired; the card locks up almost immediately at 600, lasts about a half hour or so at 575. 567 seems to be a safe bet, no crashes so far.

Now, I am almost certain it is a temperature issue. A better vga cooler like accelero x2 or zalman vf700 would definitely help pushing it higher. The question though, is this card likely to be core-limited in games it could handle comfortably? I know it sounds somewhat vague, but unfortunately I lack the knowledge in current crop of FPS games. The games I have on my computer dont push the card anywhere near its limit. (I plan on getting more taxing games afterwards)

On a side note, would it be possible to mount a vga silencer on the 1900gt? I just happened to have a 9800 with the cooler lying around 🙂

1900gt v2 vcore has been severely crippled to run that way. You can't do a volt mod on these anymore since VRM has been locked out and getting after market cooler is not going to help. If you are trying to keep your card cooler and quieter than go get a zalman or AC cooler. Other wise it's not going to help your overclocking at all.

25 mhz on the core will gain you 1 fps at most with 1900gt. Running your memory that high doesn't really do anything either. Maybe 1 or 2 fps gain in real gaming situations since the core has already been saturated.

VGA silencer doesn't work for 1900gt.

thanks for a quick reply.
I think I could tolerate the noise, so this will do for now. Too bad the vga silencer doesnt work though 🙁

Although I plan on doing some research in the PC gaming forum, does anyone want to recommend something I should try? The last FPS I have tried was Farcray, with the exception of HL2. Anything with tons of eyecandy will do (hopefully fun too), as long as the card can handle it.

There are so many good games coming out currently.

Bioshock
Gears of War
Unreal 3
Battlefield 2 (although old this is my favorite)
Call of Duty 4
MOH:Airborne
World in Conflict
HL2 episode 2
and so on....

I agree with Azn. My x1900gt overclocks much higher than yours. Mine certainly wasn't intentionally crippled that way. Still I see little difference in gaming. I do have an Accelero s1 (or 2 can't remember). Is passive - so completely quiet and keeps the core around 60 c while gaming.
