Pretty novel idea, a hybrid supercar. I think the official unveiling is Oct. 29 at the Tokyo Motor Show, there will probably be better pics then.

Is it just me or are these Japanese cars getting uglier and uglier...possibly the new Toyota Supra, the new Mazda RX-8 and the new Nissan 350Z. I miss the original Supra, RX-7 and 300ZX... those were badass cars...

Well, these are all concept cars, so the final production car is usually toned down to appeal to a more generalized crowd. I would imagine that the cars might look a lot different when they're actually available for purchase.

The 50MPG part seems too optimistic to me, the question is weight(f / r engine, two gearbox), the Prius can hardly get 50mpg and it doesn't have to lug around a 3.5 V6.
EDIT: the Prius has low friction(super skinny) tires, a Z rated 190mph tire is anything but low friction.

True... but the RX-8 and the 350Z are pretty much gonna look like how they do in those pictures. Sorta like how the s2000 and the SLK didn't change that much from conceptual design.

That sucker can come from Los Angeles, go to Vegas and back, and then to San Diego on one tank of gas. At least that's what Autoweek said. I don't care how far I get on one tank of gas... if i look like a dork doing it.

It's a Batmobile from Toyota. I don't know if they're gonna be calling it a Supra... i heard it was going to be 4000GT... named after their famous 2000GT racer, TRD 2000GT, and TRD 3000GT. Either way... that is one effing ugly car.

Cars from today look sooo much different than back in the 50s and 60s. I can only imagine how many times you'd get shot for driving one of these sissy-mobiles around Tennessee back then. Of course, I don't mind now cause I think they're spiffy and I'm young enough to be able to claim not to know any better. I just remember when Saturn used to display their cars in the mall and my father would comment on how pathetic it looked compared to a solid american car like a ford or chevy or dodge..... (this is when they first came out of course).

btw i don't think thats going to be the supra, i've seen other concept picts for the new supra and it looks like a supra.

anyhow, thats a damn great idea. build a supercar that a rich guy won't have to feel guilty about driving around all the time.. most super cars get 10mpg right? hehe. and yea i can see how they could pull 50mpg off, without consumer price limits they can use exotic materials all over the car to lower weight and stuff. prius/insight simply can't.
