The CSR told me that the P910 model is discontinued and they will not be getting anymore in. So whoever told you that they are gonna get some in in 2 weeks I think is mistaken. You might wanna call and ask them again. They might ge giving you the run around. If I was you, I'd go for the P900 substitute.

Yea, I'm not sure if they are going to be discontinued or just on back order. I was just posting what they told me, but I will call back tomorrow sometime and ask again for a few more days. What are the differences between the p900 and the p910? I know they are different tubes, but are there any other noticable differences in the monitors?

I bought a Dell with the same FD tube as the P900 for $230. I can't say I notice a difference visually, but the 1-2 switch makes the P900 worth paying more for. Absolutely no signal degradation when switching between computers. (I use a KVM switch for keyboard and mouse.)

The corners of my P910 seem to be more blurry than the middle....anyone else have the same problem? If so, what are your monitor settings?

I'm going to give Compaq tech support a call tomorrow and see what they can do.

dunno about you but everything's gravy for me. i put it in with the new ati card... used Colorific calibration... then stretched my desktop with the monitor controls...no other tweaking

I lost my Colorific serial # while I was unpacking my monitor :|

I'm going to look for it tomorrow, it's gotta be around here somewhere

I just got confirmation that my P900 substitute for the P910 just shipped yesterday. I'm just happy I got a monitor at this deal. The P900 uses an FDTrinitron tube while the P910 uses a DiamondTron. So I don't think there is much of a difference between the two, other than design. So I think the P900 will do nicely.

So if I order a P910 on their site, they might substitute a P900? That would not suck.

Did they volunteer the substitution or did you have to push?

My salesman just suggested it to me. He was very helpful actually because he was trying to find me another monitor with the same specs/price range. The p900 was the first one he offered in the 4 or 5 monitors he found. But I declined the offer and said I'd call back to see when the p910 was in stock. I guess I'll be ordering the p900 then. Thanks guys. :)

I just got off the phone with a sales rep and ordered my p900. I called up and asked for the p910 and again he said they were out of stock on those and first thing he offered was the p900. He also showed me a Samsung monitor for around $269. I said I'd go with the p900 and asked if I could get a price match on it. At first he said, "Sure, I can do that for you." But then he was like, "Oh wait a minute, the price of the p900 is $199" After that, I asked if he can even lower that and he said that there really isn't any room and gave it to me for $197 + ground shipping = $222.68.

What is the p920? From what I see, EVERYTHING is the exact same, except the newer look, and $300. Is the p910 discontinued? Would that really make a $300 difference?

Thanks!

ok so the p900 is not listed, but the 910 still is, if I order the 910, think I can call and get them to switch the 900 for it? and how can I get the 900 for 199? thanks...

a 19" trinitron for 199$ would be amazing

Just do what I did. Call them up and say you want a Compaq p910 monitor. They will tell you it's not in stock and will offer you the p900 for $199 instead. Either that or directly ask for he p900. It's very simple and no haggling needed.

ok thanks gavin, is there someplace I can get the specs on the p900? It's a trinitron right? I guess it just really blows my mind that they are going to sell a new 19inch trin for 199...... is the p900 better than the p910? worse? or is it just a matter of personal opinion of trinitron vs. diamondtron?

thanks for the input everyone... everyone is so much more helpful over here than at fatwalet

I called to get the p900, and when the guy gave me the price ($199), I just told him that I know that he can sell it for $191, and he did. My total came to $221.97.

I'm quite happy with this deal, now I just need to find a decent (and cheap) PCI vid card that will do 1600x1200@75Hz with no hickups so that I can have a nice 3200x1200 desktop.

Hope this is not too uncouth, but thought some of you might be interested since CDW is sold out. I'm selling my day-old P910 here. I should have read the specs a bit more closely, as I didn't realize this had a Trinitron-style tube, which has the damper wires that I don't really care for.

Peace,

Goto

Actually, the p910 has the Diamondtron tube which shouldn't have those lines. The p900 is the trinitron tube which will have those lines. Make sure you won't mind having these faint lines on your monitor before ordering.

Here's the specs for the p900 someone requested: p900 specs

It's a Trinitron _style_ tube--aperture grille, a copy of the Sony technology, manufactured by Mitsubishi. So it does have the damper wires.

Yes... All Trinitron monitors with Aperture-Grille technology have the 2 damper wires. BUT, these wires are shaded almost a transparent grey (the wires are 1 pixel in heigth)-- So once you get used to the monitor, you'll hardly notice at all. You must look hard into the monitor in order to see it on a dark, solid color. But on a white background, it's noticeable... But not to the point where it's an annoyance.

Hope that clears things up.
