thanks moderator loverboy - that is a great deal. some how I did not think of dell as a discount place.
Nor do they show up on pricegrabber.

of course when we all do get rid of our crts in the future, they are treated as hazardous waste.

Lead, mercury, cadmium and phosphorous are just a handful of the many toxic elements found within a CRT. Lead is the most prevalent toxic material and many CRTs have been shown to leach this lead content into landfills.

Skypix7,

Thanks for the information. I am thinking about getting this one or the Samtron 19" at Sam's club. Is the SGI monitor better? It's a little more expensive than the Samtron ($240 vs $200). I am not sure about the difference. The bad thing about buying from JourneyEd is that it's a trouble if you want to return it.

Thanks.

From the eBay picture, it doesn't look like a flat screen monitor. Can someone that bought it post a pic?

Yeah, if you've got one of these puppies some more info would be nice. I've been looking for a high-end flat 19" CRT or a -20ms response 17" LCD for a few weeks now. This is smack in the sweet spot of my price range, but I don't want to commit to a monitor that I can't find any solid info on.

Pics of the monitor, along with the label(s) on the back and the box labels (UPC, serial/item no., etc), if available, would really be appreciated!

Thanks for the tip on the hot deal Roshan, hope it's as sweet as it sounds.

I took some shots but I can't figure out how to post them here...anybody tell me how to post them, I'll put them up immediately.

The monitor is high quality graphics-level monitor...it's not a flat screen monitor...there's a slight bend in the glass, about a 3/4" bulge forward from a straight line drawn from left to right.

I have a Silicon Graphics 23" monitor. I t have both the standard VGA connection, and the type used by Sun machines. My monitor rocks! The best part is, I got it for free when I worked for Lucent! I was on a call and saw it sitting in a corner on the ground. When I commented on it, the customer said that they were gonna get rid of it. They gave me the monitor and the sun rig that was behind it that I couldn't see! I loved that job!

Okay, here's the pics of the monitor, courtesy of Skypix7. Thanks for the images man.

Searching by model number, CMNB024B, has brought up tons of information about this monitor. It appears that it's made by LG Electronics and that the rest of the specs (other than the .26 dot pitch shown as .22) are correct.

Seems like it's a mediocre deal after looking on several other sites that have it listed for $149.99 (outta stock) to $200. If it were a flat monitor or just about any other SGI monitor model it'd be a phenominal deal, but unfortiounately it's just SGI's 'budget' 19", which by no means makes it a bad monitor, just not a monitor worthy of the $400-500 price premium that some sites are pricing it at.

Well there you go. Thanks for the info KalieMa, thought it was a better deal I guess...where else did you find it at those lower prices, I looked all over the place (search, pricewatch, pricegrabber etc.)

I'm still real happy with it, for what that's worth. Good luck everybody.

.22 is the Horizontal dot pitch and .26 is the Diagonal dot pitch. In the past most manufacturers and retailers used the diagonal dot pitch as the standard. Unfortunately, many of them are now quoting the lower horizontal dot pitch to make the monitor look like it is better than the other .26 diagonal pitch models. It's a marketing ploy, they realize that people are now looking at this number to determine how good the picture quality is.

Thanks for the clarification Lanyap. I ended up running into that when looking at a shadow mask monitor at Best Buy today. Advertised a .20 (.26 diag) dot pitch. Kinda scratched my head then thought about it a sec, realized that the SGI had the same thing. :p Gotta read up on this shadow mask stuff.

As far as the lower prices on the SGI, I'll have to dig through my search results to find em. I did a google search for it to find some of the prices I saw, so there's (of course) no guarantee of their veracity. There was one site called "monitors4sale.com" or some such, that might've been where I saw the $149 deal.

I've been looking around for the best deal on a new 19" or larger CRT for the last couple weeks, this deal was tempting along with a few others.

Workstations, etc has quite a few rebadged Sony's (hp, sgi, sun) from $139 to $249 and up.

MonitorMan has two 19" IBM's for $100/$125 that are tempting for the price.

MonitorsDirect the manufacturer of "Cornerstone", which have had some good reviews, also has some great prices on Hitachi's, as well as most other major brands.

Buying a monitor sight unseen is probably the single largest reason for me hesitating on any of these, not to mention the likelyhood of shipping damage and the hassle and cost of long distance RMA's and warranty repair, although MonitorsDirect has a rather incredible warranty program and will cross-ship, and their lifetime reseller rating is an amazing 9.84.

Decisions, decisions...

Seems that Talon found good deals for CRT's. Are those monitors at workstation.etc refurbished? I may cancel my order for this SGI monitor, since it's backordered. Thanks, Talon, for sharing this information.
