Are the KDS rebates online? Does anyone have a link? I see OD also has a $30 rebate on the KDS® XF-7B 17", I wonder if there might be a manufacturers rebate as well. Too bad all of the OD coupons now exclude tech items...

Yes, they are huge. I have one imbedded in one entire wall in my room. My neighbors love me. :D

Most flat screen shadowmask CRTs are built like this. Only the high end shadowmask CRTs have a truly flat screen tube. Off course Trinitron and Diamondtron CRTs are truly flat but they generally cost more than shadowmasks.

EDITED for accuracy. ;)

yeah, you cant get a truly flat tube for anywhere near this price. But thanks for the heads up

Personally I had this monitor and didn't care for it. It had geometry problems, and seemed a little fuzzy and hard on the eyes. I went witha viewsonic a90f+

Where on god's green earth did you get the KDS av-195TF's for 50? I'm dying to get a few more, I currently have one that's chugging along beautifully. Information on this matter will not to unrewarded.

Just an FYI for everyone... the specs at OD say

~~~~
Item # 558866
Manufacturer # XF-9BI
manufacturer KDS
model name XF-9B
~~~~

I got in on this monitor a couple months ago when they had the $70 coupon error + rebate (which did come through)

There is QUITE A MIX-UP regarding model numbers and part numbers at OD.
KDS has two models -- the XF-9BI, and the XF-9B with different specs
the really confusing thing is, OD _may_ have both monitors -- and each of them has the OD item# 558866.

I know from personal experience... I bought this online, picked it up (model XF-9BI), took it home -- and the specs don't match!
Took it back and exchanged for the XF-9B -- no hassle, but buyer beware that 2 different monitors have the same part number.

btw... very happy with it... think i paid ~85AR

Hmmmmm, considering.......This CRT.
I would still like to upgrade to an LCD though. However, for the price of a 15" LCD I could get 2 or maybe 3 of these KDS'.

Just picked up one of these today (Sunday, the 25th). There are three Office Depots in my area. Two were sold out already. The one I went to had two left, but I got one and someone else bought the last one before I got through the line. The two stores I called that were sold out both had had numerous calls about the monitor's availability already. In short, they seem to be selling fast.

Got it home and hooked it up. Some reactions...

Overall, I'm satisfied. Taken for what it is--a 19-inch CRT monitor for $100--I think there is good value for the dollar. I got it as a monitor to attach to an old computer that my 2-year-old son will be able to play around with for the next two or three years, and I think it's perfect for such a non-professional use. I wouldn't try to do high-end design work on it, or anything that requires perfect color.

I think quite a few people will just buy the monitor and be very happy with it, but I'll be real picky here with some comments.

1. Color is good. Not great. Not bad. Overall, things seem just a wee bit washed out, even after tinkering with all the controls.

2. The picture is good. Not great. Not bad. There is a very slight inbalance in the overall brightness. The bottom left and right corners are ever so slightly darker than the rest of the screen with certain (darker) colors.

3. Overall clarity is good. There is some slight fuzziness at 1600 by 1200.

4. Picture balance is good, but there is very slight distortion in the top left and top right corners that I can't seem to get rid of.

5. Controls, design, appearance, etc., all are fine.

Again, I'm looking for things to critique; I think many people will never even notice the things I've mentioned. They are all quite minor, and you'l most likely have to look for them before you notice them.

Bottom line: At $100, this is a good deal on a basic CRT monitor with a lot of real estate.

Thanks for the rebate links, deal is good :)

I have a 6-year old CTX 17" & I want a bigger monitor. Should I get this or wait & get an LCD? How does this compare to the Envision?

So is the XF-9b preferrable to the XF-9bi?

Why?

Thanks.

The XF-9b is preferred over the XF-9bi

specs for "9b" is 1600X1200 @ 75Hz

specs for "9bi" is 1600X1200 @ 65Hz, if my memory serves me right

Horizontal/Vertical freq. specs were different enough %-wise to be worth taking it back for an exchange.

30 - 98KHz / 50-160Hz = 9b

30 - 86KHz / 50-160Hz = 9bi

The worker helping me out was baffled as to why the two monitors had the same OD part-number, too.
Bottom line... make sure you get what you're buying... 75Hz at max resolution is easy on the eyes, 65Hz is head-ache city

Thanks ttown,

Looks like I got a XF-9bi but it was the last one in the store. Local OD says they will be getting more in on Tues. shipment. I might take a look at what they get in and exchange for a 9b if there is one. Although I'm sure this one would be fine at its rating of 1280x1024 @75Hz.

Thanks.
