Sony is not a waste of money as i have a Sony G400 myself. Buy i'd get samsun 900NF if you want to stay closer to your budget

Another Vote goes to 900nf.
I recommended this monitor to my friend and he bought it.
I saw it and I liked it very much. He has viewsonic pf790 at work, 19 in, and he says it can't compare to 900nf, but still is good.
I, myself placed an order for 21 in. one, 1200nf, few days ago, still waiting.
Thank LXi and others for recommending this model to me.

I'm between a 955DF or 900NF, leaning towards 955DF because of the MIR, but that depends on the companies having them in stock. I need buy.com to have some more free shipping days!
Thanks to all.

You definitely want trhe Samsung 900nf...There is no question that this monitor rools! This is the top of the line 19inch monitor and u can prolly get a good price with a little searching around. I have the 700nf and love it! One problem might be that it is heavy as hell, but then again what 19inch monitors arent?...Hope I was a help... 😉

P.S. Found it a at www.techonweb.com for 388$ US
🙂

Doah, there is a Samsung $30MIR for the 955DF & 900NF.
I wonder if there is a big difference between the 2, besides the 900NF being around $100 more.

There is a big difference, the 900NF has much higher specs and its good for resolutions as high as 1920x1440, the 955DF is only good for 1280x1024, however if thats the highest you need, 955DF will do fine. Another difference is the tube, 900NF uses the Mitsubishi DiamondTron NF tube, the 955DF uses the Samsung DynaFlat tube. I would recommend the 900NF if your budget allows.

This thread has helped me a lot. I'm also in the market for a 19 inch monitor. At this point I think I'm going to go with the Samsung 900NF. Thanks! 🙂

Yeah, me too (900NF).
The cheapest I can find is $406 + shipping of $32. MIR equals out shipping. (Page Computer)
Let me know if you can beat it.

-----oops----edited---Outpost.com has the Samsung 900NF for $450 with free overnight delivery since it's over $100 purchase. Then subtract the $30 MIR rebate.

Argh checked Outpost.com they have raised the price from $450 to $470 recently. Well in that case it's not a very good deal.

No one has mentioned Iiyama. I have the Vision master 450 which I got for $250 used and it is quite a bit nicer than my Samsung 17' (but I still love the Samsung).

I really like my Samsung 900p. It doesn't have the flat screen like the NF/IFT/DF's, but the image quality is astounding compared to many others I've seen (don't know who the frell made the Gateway EVx00 series but all of those I've ever seen are absolutely terrible). I am going to retire my monitor for an 18" flat-panel this summer though.

never seen an NF but I have the 900IFT and it's pretty damn sweet.. the picture sharpness is better than my old NEC cause of the .20dp vs. .25 on my NEC. but the NEC has excellent color and picture as well. take a look for a NEC FE900 Multisync to see what it's worth, I had a FE700 which was a 17" version, and it truly is still a good monitor. But I agree with almost everyone else in here! SAMSUNG!

I am suprised no one mention the Philips RealFlat 109P

The only one I know (other than Mitshubishi DiamondTron Flat 19&quot😉 that does 1280x1024 at 100Hz.
Even the Sony F400, G400, Samsung 900xxx, Viewsonic PT/PF790/795. All these dont support it.

1280x1024/100Hz is great.

I thought so
since it support 1600x1200/85Hz, it 'theoritically' should also support 1280x1024/100Hz since they have about the same 'video bandwidth'.

Now, can anyone verify for me that the other models I mentioned also support 1280x1024/100Hz?

I heard that anything over 85Hz is overkill and will damage your eyes, but I dont know the truth to it.

Im absolutely certain that Sony G400 can do 100Hz at 1280x1024, LG Flatron should too, so does Iiyama and some NEC models, but ViewSonic can't because they're not that good.

anything over 85Hz is overkill and will damage your eyes?

Anything over or below? Isn't the higher refresh rate better for you eyes or am I missing something?
Right now I have 15 in, trinitron from gateway which is old.
I never had problems with it before, but now my eyes are starting to hurt in a really short period. Just can't wait for 1200nf to arrive.
Hope it will be better on my eyes.

LXI once again speaks without checking the facts and blasts ViewSonic with general statements that are not true.

Any monitor with a 107-110Khz horizontal scan frequency theoretically can support 1280 x 1024 at 100Hz, check the manufacturers recommendations. Here is short a list of 107-110Khz 19" monitors.

Hitachi CM772
Cornerstone p1460
ViewSonic P95F
ViewSonic PF795 (This model may be discontinued)
Iiyama Pro 451
Sony G400
Sony E400
NEC FP950

Good Luck

Jim

Gosharkss:

If you actually paid attention to the ViewSonic model we've been discussing above, the PF790 was the model I referred to, and it DOES NOT do 1280x1024@100Hz.

I'd also appreciate if you would ask me for clarification before declaring that Im pulling things out of my backside.

I have the Viewsonic PF790 and love it. The only gripe is a slight screen bow that I cannot (after 1 year) adjust out. Nice picture and color though. I would recommend it.
