1820/2400 on the SAT. I'm screwed

I took the SAT's back in the old days when 1600 was tops too, got a 1280 on it after a hard night of partying....3 hrs sleep and still semi-drunk / hungover. Never took a practice test or read any books. Being sober might have helped though, wasn't able to finish the whole thing.

So what's this writing portion? random question they want you to write about?

also, is this misspelling of college a running joke? would hate for the OP's writing score to come down because of it
Some random philosophical garbage that they force you to write about. The essay I got was about "inventing desire" by advertisements. That was an easy one. Good catch on the collage/college thing.

However, the super smart rarely attend those kind of schools because they are smart enough to figure out they aren't usually all that great and you are spending way too much money for the "esteem."
True dat.

it's no big deal. those are good scores, especially for a practice test. with my writing score (which i took as an SAT II several years ago) and my SAT Is, i got a 2090 combined. i also got into an ivy league school. i'm not complaining.

Jeez... This is bad....

I got a 640 in math, 600 in english and 580 in writing..... and this was on a practice SAT. My target goal is 2100 (when I take the SATs in 6 months). Reasonable? (Considering that I blew these). I'm working my ass off getting my score up.

Now another question comes to mind.... I'm not looking to get into Ivy league obviously, but can you get into a decent collage getting an 1800? Good meaning things like Northeastern, Cornell, such and such.

Sorry, just had to rant a bit. I hate ETS (guys that make the SAT) now...

640 math will get you into a relatively good engineering school. I got into one of hte best with a 710 math and 320 verbal. Yup, 1030/1600

Back when I took it, it was only 1600. SAT isn't that important. If you do good in high school and don't score really high, you can easily get into a good college. Hell, if you go to a community college for a couple of semesters, some colleges don't even look at the SAT score.

I know people put down community college, but many top notch universities like UC are starting to recommend them due to overcrowding, etc. I know this one guy who only scored around 950 and he now has 2 PhDs. General education classes taken at a top notch school are not that different from general education classes at a community college.

A teacher actually told me that once.

think youre bad...i got a 1580, 610 in math, 490 in verbal, 480 in writing. I am trilingual though, but english is my best language so i have no excuse...

The SAT's are hogwash. I recall one of my classmates back in highschool who had recently moved to the US from China (so English was his second language). While he hand't quite mastered the spoken language yet (read: it was pretty bad), his writing was HORRIBLE. I offered to proof-read one of his English class papers and it took me 2 hours just to get through it once. Any way, he ended up getting an 800 on the English portion of the test (note, that's a 'perfect' score). Goes to show ya, SAT's are meaningless when the guy can't write a coherent sentence.

I'm fairly certain I'd fail miserably at the Cantonese portion of the SAT if there was one 😛

BLEH... here's a little secret. College's, except for a rare few, don't give a CRAP. Really, they don't. If you have money they are going to take you. They are a business like everything else. They make money having enrolled students. The more they have, the more they make. Don't sweat it. Seriously, unless you plan on attending Harvard, Juliard, Yale, MIT or some other snobbish school you'll do fine. If you wanted to attend a school like that then you need to be A) a part of the lineage with your father, grandfather, great- everything having been there B) groomed yourself from age 4 to go to that particular school C) a minority with a decent set of scores and GPA to fill a quota or D) a Rich and/or famous fcking b-tard.

But in the real world. Most people don't care. I work with harvard and MIT grads and I can run rings around them with my knowledge over theirs. I can get the job done where they can't and where they can, I do it faster and better. It's all about skills in the real world once you get past that stupid piece of paper.

wow... somebody has an inferiority complex....

SAT's seperate you from the people with similar GPA's as you during the application accepting process. You're pretty much screwed.

I'm right there with you. I only scored lil over a thousand.

hmm, looks like the scoring system has changed. [gramps]back in my day, a 1600 was a perfect score[/gramps]. (circa ~1994-96)

Slightly earlier than you, but the same...and I got a 1520...wonder what I'd get now.

I took them way back in the old days in 1987.
680 math
590 verbal
1270 total
Which at that time(before they changed the scoring) was 95th percentile.
I think the nationwide average at that time was 900-1000.

the max was 1600, but scores in the 700's in either math or verbal were very rare and a perfect score was almost unheard of. There was one guy at my school who got a perfect score. If you've seen the movie Stand By Me, you've seen him. He's one of the curly-haired nerdy looking twins who yell at lardass. One of them got 1600, the other got like 1580.

Alright alright 🙂 Screw cornell then. I haven't researched my collages yet so ... just ignore what I said. Any collages to be looking at for the prospective engineer?

Please learn to spell college.
