Candidate yes. He likely would have fared better vs. Trump in the general election than Hilarious did, but a better president probably not. His economic plan did not pass the smell test. He didn't provide any way to actually pay for all that he promised. He did little more than tell people what they wanted to hear. He was a populist.

Maybe his proposals were unrealistic or whatever, but you can't really say that he never offered any details about how he'd pay for his policies.
