$80 to move from a 7800GT to a X1800XT? Hell yes. If nothing else, you can see what the fuss is about, good and bad, and a 512MB @ 750GHz DDR card will probably have a higher resale value than a 256MB @ 500MHz DDR one.

for $360 hell yes buy it. if not for usage then to sell off again, you could easaly sell that for 400-450 and get like 100$ profit, which you can then put towards a G80/R600 🙂

No.. I'm getting a brand new 1800XT for $360 TOTAL w/o selling my 7800

so it's basically $80 for the total "upgrade" if i sell my 7800 for $280~

Oh really my intelligent friend. I didn't see the part where he was going to sell the 7800GT but was going to get the X1800XT for $360.00. I thought he was going to throw the 7800GT in another rig. Go ahead and add up the $360.00 X1800XT and price for the 7800GT from $280 to $400.00 that I didn't realize he was going to sell because I didn't read the post carefully enough and see what your math adds up to. I don't know when he got his 7800GT so I don't know how much he paid for it so I simply guessed around 350-450.

Next time, instead of insulting me and not answering the OP's question why don't you ask me my reasoning and point out information that I overlooked in the OP. Peace

OP: For $80.00 I would upgrade to the 7800GTX or the X1800XT from the 7800GT.

Cause if that was true, I'd sell this 7800 GT and get an x1800XT as well! I was already going to sell it and buy an All-in-Wonder x1800XL for $343, but if I could get an XT for $17 more, well... 😀

They have an employee purchase program, which is one perk of my crappy retail job.
I've gotten 3 cards that way so far.
9800 Pro for way less than retail. (I forget the prices)
X850XT PE for $420 Cdn. when they retailed for $699.99 Cdn.
And now X1800XT for $375 Cdn. when they retail for $749.99 Cdn. 😀

Mine's supposed to arrive tomorrow, w00t...course i'll be at work though, so i'll likely have to wait to get it till next week...

This is one of the reasons i have claimed that ATi/nVidia are raping us on video card prices, since i know that they wouldn't sell them to us employees at a loss.
Course, no one believes me...

sorry, I am referring to the fact that the price you quote is below wholesale cost, not below ATIs cost. How did you get a price lower than wholesale cost? I know a guy that work at Canada Computers, and no one gets a cheaper wholesale price than they do.

I just kept checking the staff purchase page ATi has till it appeared there, & when i saw it & that price, i ordered within minutes 😛

Now i just have to grab a new PCI-e mobo & case (old one is too small for these damn long new cards) 😀

That could well be. The retail employee purchase price can easily be well below wholesale, since it's a promotion -- much like Intel's 'retail edge' which kicks in around holiday time.

ATI marketroids know well that sooner or later clueless purchasers will ask the nice salesguy, 'What do you have in your machine?' and will remember 'ATI' or 'Nvidia', not the numercial and alpabet soup which follows. And hopefully go home with some sucker edition card bought at full retail.

Charging a retailer a different price for volume shelfware has nothing to do with this.

Oh, on topic: add my 'hell YEAH' to the OP. If you don't like the card, sell it. You won't lose.

Speaking of the Retail Edge program that's actually how I got my new processor, motherboard, and Windows XP for the computer I'm building. I also got a video card from ATI through their program. The perks almost make up for dealing with customers who don't know ****** about computers all day at Circuit City!

Yeah from what I know ATI still have 50% discount for videocards to employees off MSRP. I got my 8500 in 2001 that way. But I think now they wait a bit before new generation is about to come out before offering 50% off current cards. That is why with X1900 around the corner X1800 cards are gonna be cheap.

I just bought a X1800XT from CompUSA for $399 and that's before a $50 ATI rebate. Unfortunately, the price went up shortly afterwards. Check out the Hot Deals Forum, a number of people got in on it.
