yes, maha is recognized as one of the top brands. although i have heard that they are rebranded nexcells. i have 8 mahas, and they work really well, they actually gave me more than the advertised battery time for my sony cd player (72+ hours). a good place to get mahas is from thomas-distributing.com

i don't know anything about the energizer ones, but it's possible they are bad. sorry i can't help you.

another good brand is the sanyo industrial strength ones. they come as just plain green batteries, but they're supposed to be the best. pretty cheap too.
 
There is a guy on ebay selling 8 of these for $23.50 shipped. Just search for "GP NIMH". He is also selling them individually.
 
I've dealt with both Thomsons and Sunn, Thomsons has the best customer service and fast shipping but prices are a bit high on somethings. The guy on ebay selling the GP 1800 AA is usually Sunn battery. I bought them on ebay too and I had to call into Sunn battery after the auction. They shipped quick and I had no hassles. Maha and GP seem to be the best brands for rechargeables. Currently the GP 1800 is the best but there is a 1900 coming out, either already or very soon. I bought these batteries for my optical mouse and keyboard and they last a very long time. The charger I use is the maha c204, but I'm looking into the 1-hour rayovac charger.

Stay away from energizers, their alkalines are the best but rechargeable suck.

also, look into the radio shack 23-422 charger. comparable to the maha 204, but it holds 8 batts.
 
I would just love these bats but does the recharger need to be NIMH? I have a reular standard recharger-is that good enough?
If not, does anyone know a good place and price for a recharger??
 
it has to be good for nimh, not just nicd.

i recommend the radio shack 23-422... you dont' have to worry about overcharging since it's microprocessor controlled, and it has trickle charge so that your batts are always fully charged. it was about 35 bucks.

i have heard good things about the maha chargers too.
 
Even if you have an old charger, I would recommend that you buy a newer charger. The new chargers with the microprocessors and etc., do make a difference. The only concern I would have with an old charger is that you might not get a full charge out of the battteries, defeating the purpose of getting the 1800mah. For example, if your old charger has a timer for let's say 10 hours, you might need to run it twice to get a full charge on the battery since 1800's weren't around a couple months ago. The standard for AA used to be around 1200mah. General rule of thumb for safe charging is that if the charging current is 1/10 the capacity of the battery, no matter how long you charge it, it won't damage the cell, for example. the 1800 can be charged at 180 indefinitely with no damage. If you use a quick charger like the maha 204, the microprocessor stops the charger when the battery is full but also remember that quick charging batteries reduces the life span of your batteries by 10-20% but I personally think the trade off is worth the short life span, 1500 charges compared to 1200.

I never used sanyo batteries but for rechargeables and alkalines alike I'm willing to bet there are almost the same, the only thing I would be worried about for rechargeables is the rate capacity, I doubt manufacter makes a difference because they are all probably made by the same OEM company. It's like alkaline batteries when consumer reports tested them, the difference is almost none and even the store brands out lasted the name brand energizer and duracell because the store brands are just repackaged energizer and duracells, the difference being, that they can't advertise the technology used such as "advanced formula" M3 technology" etc.

For the charger, I'm planning on purchasing the rayovac 1 hour, the maha takes a good 2-3 hours for a charge and if the rayovac does charge in one hour, it may be worth it.

Is it that a good of a deal when you can get 12 Rayovac's 1600mh at Sears for $24 with the 3 for 2 coupon ? (see other thread for details)
 
ok, but I really haven't seen any confirmation of this anywhere ! What do you think is wrong with the Rayovac's ?

The only comparison I know of is here Battery Capacity and it's not very favorable to the "1,800mh" batteries although of course the guy is trying to sell the Sanyo "industrial" batteries...
 
yes, given the choice, i would take the sanyo's over the GPs too 🙂

to be honest, i have no hard numbers, i just have a tendency to go for the lesser known in the u.s. but well known outside type products.

i'm going to be doing some comparisons soon though, i'll let you know how those turn out.
 
grrrrr. I just bought 4 MAHA POWEREX MAXIMUM LIFE 1700mAH AA NiMH for around 20 bucks shipped... for my fuji 2600 to bad this wasn't out a couple of days ago!
 
for those who doesn't want to wait for shipping(me), fry's has a Lenmar's nomem pro 4 pack 1700mah AA for $9.99. I've bought two packs and they're awesome!!
 
costco has 8 AA, 2 AAA, 2 of each C & D adapters and a charger for 24.95 They're Panasonic NiMh and I believe 1600 mah but could be higher.
 
Went to my local B&M Sam's CLub today and picked up Energizer pack consisting of following.

8 AA NiMH Battries (1700mAH)
Charger (Dual - Can be used with both NiMH and NiCD battries).

Works great with my Fuji FinePix 1300 Camera.

These battries last for about 1000 charges so go figure.....

Oh the best part.....they are selling this for $19.99 + Tax.

This isn't necessarily true. There are so many companies that make batteries.... Mainly you want to see what the output is on the battery. How many watts and amps. When it comes to the quality, most of the no-names are actually not producing their own batteries. They just buy overstocks or have other suppliers. This isn't to say that their batteries are of good quality or bad quality because that can be a case by case or even battery to batttery survey. I've been to Home Depot and seen corrosion on Energizers that are brand new in the package before. Just goes to show my point. As far as these batteries. Give em a try and compare them to the output you'd expect out of a rechargable. If you like them, reorder some more and stock up. 😉
 
I am really trying to get the batteries from Home Depot for the clearance price, could somebody please do me a favor and do a text search for Home Depot, I cannot seem to find it searching normally.

moolman - good info on chargers and rechargeable batteries. I read a tech paper once that claimed fast charging actually increases the life of a battery. I quickly got lost in the technical jargon though.

Is the Rayovac 1 hour charger microprocessor controlled too?
 
Costco also has 6 paks of 1600 AA Panasonic batteries for 12.99, or 2.16 plus tax per battery. They seem fine, but I'm not a battery analyzer.
 
I picked up an Energizer "starter set" at Sam's Club for $19.99 this week - had eight 1700 ma AA batteries with a AA charger.

Not bad just for the batteries, I thought (since I was already there)...
