1800+@2.2ghz XP vs newer 2800+ or better Athlon 64?

Currently have a 1800+@3200+ at 200FSB. Curious hows this compare to the Athlon 64 2800+ or better? Would it be worth the upgrade to go with a Nforce 3 board and a Athlon 64?

Whats a good Athlon 64 to o/c and what are the top 3 Nforce 3 boards out? Would wait for Nforce 4 but wanna wait at least 6 months to a year for newer rev boards to come out. Or should I wait now? Will my current memory(PC3200) work in newer mobo's?

If you are waiting for the "best" time to buy a computer, you will never buy, there is always something bigger/better/faster coming down the pipe. I say if your current rig does what you need it to to, then save the money and wait. If its starting to show its age, then go ahead an get a 64 why put yourself into a dead end for upgrades

the a64 would be better. the 1800+ at 2.2ghz isnt the same as a barton at 2.2ghz, because of the difference in cache and core. if you want a good oc, then get the a64 3000+ winchester core and get the msi neo2 nforce 3 ultra board along with ocz el platinum edition rev. 2 ram and you'll get around 2.5ghz. 🙂

I don't know if Sandra is accurate or not but it shows my CPU exactly with 3200+ give or take 40-80 points. Would there be much difference in games by upgrading now?

the a64 at a given pr rating is MUCH faster than the axp at the same rating. if you feel like doing a relatively inexpensive upgrade, just buy a CG 2800+ and you should hit at least the same clock as you are on your tbred, so you will have a considerably faster system.

Listen, there is no need upgrading for you if the system gets the stuff you wanna get done. Hey look at me, I have a Pentium 4 520 and an Abit AA8-Duramax. This is an animation machine. However, most people still told me to get a 6600/GT. I said "Why the hell do I need a 6600/GT when animation only takes up CPU power. Sure, playback the vidcard is important, but how often do you playback? I'll save some of the money and get a better board." That is how I got a better board.

Two things to upgrading and building a new PC.
1. Be conscious of your needs.
2. You must do research.
