13" though. :(

Sounds like car audio stuff. Pro sound will rape the car toys. I need a driver that rocks to 20Hz that can blow a rat across the floor.

TC Sounds makes a motor that can do it. The LMT. Not very efficient, though. Adire Audio's XBL^2 technology can and has been scaled up past that high. See the Parthenon.

Just put the rat in front of a port. :) Transmission line exit will do as well.

I usually feed them potassium soaked in oil with a little cheese mixed in and then spray them with the hose.

good stuff.

I don't touch rats.

Ever see that video of the crab that gets sucked into the leaking pipe? That's the effect I want through an air grille.

Put some cheese in this.

Power not required. It will kill the rat bastard. It has to. It's Bose.

The Adire Parthenon will make that one look like a toy.

Click

80mm ONE way linear stroke!
46lbs motor structure!!
Fs 7Hz!!!
121dB at 20Hz (no room gain, no baffle, no box...)
66 liters (!!!) of linear air displacement.
True dipole driver.

excerpt from the site:

"At the 2004 CES we'll be showing a 24" square baffle unit, with a Qts of 0.72 and an Fs of 7 Hz. Flat anechoic response to 6 Hz. And capable of over 66 liters of linear air displacement! That will generate reference level (121 dB SPL) output at 20 Hz, when sitting naked in a room - no room gain, no baffle, no box required. The first true dipole driver (not sub - no baffle, remember!) that can do reference outputs. With flat output to the single digits. How's that for a driver?

Price? Well, if you gotta ask... Basic charge for the motor will be in the $2500-$3000 range, and that includes a base suspension (there's a LOT of machining in this piece, not to mention the price of the steel or the neo). Final cost depends upon the application - diaphragm size, voice coil config, any changes required (note that it's trivially easy to add more stroke - lengthen the voice coils, use taller columns, and we're there), finishes (powder coat, anodizations, paint, etc) will all affect the total price; figure in the $4500-$5000 range for most "normal" application. But considering what you have here - more output than 12 Tumults in the base 2004 CES trim! - it's a relative bargain.

So how far can you go? A 48" x 48" panel would be about the limit. Pretty easy to stretch the motor to 12" of peak-to-peak stroke, so that would be around 16 cubic FEET of displacement (over 450 liters of linear displacement). Now THAT would be a monster! Anyone game? I know a few famous car audio names who are already planning to use this beast, want to join that exclusive club?

The Mad cabinet probably has nothing below 35hz without heavy equalization, in fact:

Frequency Response: 20Hz-100Hz, +/- 3dB, Equalized

The driver can handle it though.

Best bet for going super deep in an HT would be the largest and highest excursion TC sounds driver, like one that Howard suggested.
This thing is insane: http://www.tcsounds.com/lms5400.htm

don't know about excursion, but there are plenty of 2x18" subs available for pro audio applications. many will take several thousand watts of power. go to any decent club or concert hall and you'll see them stacked up on the floor. at outdoor venues, they make giant walls out of them.

Its not vaporware, they actually made and displayed one at CES. But its probably not exactly cheap to have them make you one. It'll never go into production, they'll all be made as ordered.

Dan Wiggins has stated many times on forums that they were build to order units from the start and that they've produced units for private parties.
I don't know if the clients were anything like a cinema chain but if you email him I'm sure he will answer any basic questions you have.
