Has anyone received these drives yet? I might be looking to place them in an old 486 that will act as an NFS server. I think they should do alright, hopefully :) I see no reason why I should pay retail for drives that wont be storing "mission-critical" data. Thanks...

Looks like they ran out, the link is no longer good and I couldn't find the drives anywhere on their site.

I just called in to get a RA number since one of the ones I recieved broke. The sales rep tried to order me another one but told me that they were not taking any more orders for the drives.

If you mean RMA rather than RA, then if you have a defective
WD drive you can probably RMA it directly with WD...Go to the
www.westerndigital.com web page and you can enter the serial
number of your drive and get back the amount of warranty left
on the drive...

Not really any super deals on the converters.. cause they screw you with shipping.. AND UPS even.. UGH..

I just got one of the new ones the other week ;) for my 6400..
Here's a place for a converter..

SCA-2 80(F) to Mini DB68(F) internal converter, specifically wired for LVD operation, no termination circuit, spindle control and SCSI ID settings via jumpers, LP form factor.

get the SCA68LVD

HyperMicro.com

Best part ? $25.60 shipped FedEX Express saver.. FedEX > UPS

For anyone who may be interested, PC Liquidators has Fujitsu 4.5gig 10k SCA 80 pin brand new drives for $39.99 HERE.

I've gotten 4 of them and they are damn fast, and quite. :)

Well I called on the phone around 1pm EST and spoke to a CSR he took my order for 1 and said that they were awaiting inventory? My web order status says awaiting inventory as well so who knows.

I also ordered a converter to 50 pin for my 2940 card from the link provided in the thread for $8.95 and $5.00 shipping. So for about a $100 I get a nice 18gig SCSI drive. Probably need a new controller card to really see any speed from it though.

I ordered 4 and received them today, all in shrink wraps. The model number is WDE18310-9042A1. They are indeed Enterprise model Ultra2 LVD, 80pin. But doing a search on the website showed no results under this model number. The only one I could find online was WDE18310-0042.

Checking the warranty on all four, they showed 3 with 11/2004 expiration and 1 with 4/2005 expiration.

I was hoping to get the Gateway server so I can put these puppies in, no luck now.

HELP: I am not very up-to-date with SCSI standards. Can someone tell me if I can use these with an UW controller? Not getting the same speed of course.

So anyone have any good deals on SCSI cards now? It'd be nice to upgrade my $30 Advansys Ultra-SCSI card so I can take advantage of the performance.. :D

Yes, but all 4 of the drives combined would be limited to 40 MB/sec transer rate. You could get nearly full speed by putting them all individually on different UW channels, but that's hardly worth it.
Also, keep in mind that if you are going to use an SCA converter, it MUST be LVD compatible, whether or not you are trying to use it on an LVD chain, otherwise you may have some problems. Additionally, LVD drives don't have built in termination, so you'll need to get an LVD terminator to put on the end of the cable (or an SE terminator if you are going to use it only with a UW controller). Feel free to PM me if you need any help with any of the setup.

Best thing to do re: termination is to buy a 68-pin cable
that has the active terminator built into the end of the cable...

Just got my "refurbished" drives. They are actually FACTORY
NEW in sealed antistatic bags...I just checked the warranty
status (Western Digital lets you do this based on serial number),
and these are warrantied until 12/2004 (3.5 years left on
warranty).

$80 NEW 18.2GB 10K SCSI with 3.5 year warranty? Now that's a
STEAL!!!
